projection mappings
sony playstation video store real-time projection mapping http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGkV-_KWRTU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTP32x3gCZ4
I enjoyed watching this 3d projection mapping since first of all it is being held in a usual gamer’s house. But most of all I really liked this mapping since it is real time based and it involves an actual human whilst the action takes place. Apart using projection mapping in this sequence, real props are planned to be moved by humans using common things thus making the scene more realistic. Another fact I liked about this projection mapping is the good use of patterns to make the scene look as infinite meaning that the person is standing on a sofa on a circular platform at a height which is really an illusion since there were patterns projected on the floor.
audi a1 car projection mapping http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4sVTUAdoLg
I can say this is one of the most 3d mappings I enjoyed seeing, I am addicted to cars. True, but that’s not the fact why I really loved this one. The persons who created this managed to trace exactly the car and map it up giving the perfect illusion of the car in motion. The car seems to increase speed through its journey in different places by rotating the wheels faster and always changing the terrain well and in time. Apart from those two factors, the environmental reflections on the car, give the perfect impression of a real vehicle in motion. The lights are also lit using mapping and they even managed to change the car’s colour from red to lots of other different colours and styles by using the same projection mapping method. The music is well synced to the final product like for example a song beat is played when the car the plastic brick wall and breaks it all up. The team even managed to conclude the mapping well by showing the car slowing down and displaying special factory colours and corresponding text on the floor finally displaying A1 on the car’s side panel.
adidas 3d projection mapping http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--5AJz2brCY
This is a fantastic projection mapping. A large building is used to present it all representing more enthusiasm due to a larger surface area. I enjoyed watching this mapping the most when the producers managed to destroy the building so well as if it was real, in fact some of the crowd actually screamed. Another enjoyable part of the display is when the building comes back as a whole again after the footballers shoot the ball towards the audience. The fact that they incorporated a real life DJ in the whole scene was really fun since it was a good point for interaction with the audience. One of the best parts of this mapping is when the guy with the bicycle comes out from a window do his stunt or trick and returns back in from another window which really makes sense. They also managed to represent strength using projection mapping when it came to the two Judo guys. As one of them hit the floor, all the building seemed to shake due to the power and strength of the fall.
samsung 3d television projection mapping http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cb6k-8hhGQ8
This is one of the most realistic projection mappings I’ve seen so far. The mapping is well aligned and well planned. The same as the previous mapping, the butterfly starts by coming out from a window on the left and moving into a window on the right. Then goes out again like he set something up and the action begins. I didn’t really love the hand pulling back the stones from the wall and back out again but afterwards the cracks in the wall amazed me since they are well displayed and perfectly synchronised with the sound like for example when it cracks up to the top the windows break and seem to break really well as if they were real. The rounded Stone at the top falls really well following the proper amount of gravity / speed. But there was a little mistake that the smashing sound of the circle was played before it actually hit the floor. The butterflies represent a very realistic 3d effect as they all come out at once. The water filling up the place is also very realistic and it’s wonderful when it comes out on the floor but is a bit misleading since the windows were already broken before. Overall this is a great Samsung ad and a well presented projection mapping.
ENVISION: Step into the sensory box World Mobile Congress Ă Barcelona http://vimeo.com/10692284#
First of all I really enjoyed this mapping since it is presented on lots of placed boxes in a small room followed by massive fast light trails all around them which really dealt an impression of showing confusion and fast travelling. Since this is created for a mobile congress, it was able to show the everyday use of telecommunication. Finally on each box there is a skyscraper or part of a city projected showing that they will be anywhere at any moment with a fast and reliable service.
arkbell 3d projection mapping http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ralwfcuE_Tg
This is another projection mapping presented on boxes in a room, this time from Ark bell a company selling video cameras, projectors and other different type of media. I think this projection mapping was created to advertise directly the projector itself showing its projection capabilities and advanced colour displacement on different lengths, angles and locations. I enjoyed this projection mapping since it is somehow abstract but I don’t think it was the perfect one to see and enjoy.
interactive projection mappings
bmw joy Asia’s 1st Interactive 3d building projection http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pm9yb1w7-Lc
This is a somewhat interactive kind of 3d mapping since the presented visuals are always asking people a question after another making them feel joy whilst seeing the visuals, thus it can be easily compared to the BMW’s name “Joy” to the actual feeling of the people present. This was created and planned to be projected onto the walls of Singapore’s busy office buildings so that the boring working days will in a way be converted into joy. The whole point of the projection is to put a smile on each and every viewer’s face representing Joy which is the same name of the BMW. In my opinion this projection mapping is not really interactive and I can say there are much more projections which I prefer next to this.
nokia ovi maps interactive projection mapping http://vimeo.com/11188067#
This is one of the most wonderful simple projection mappings I’ve seen when it comes to interactivity. Over here, Nokia has placed an infra-red camera inside the car which records close people’s motions and displays them in the projection being played in real time animation. This is great since it attracts many people to go and test it out thus leading them to the Nokia’s stand next to the projection as the whole point of this was to advertise Nokia OVI Maps which promotion was available in the tent next to the projected wall. People enjoyed moving in different poses and ways to see how they see themselves on the wall. Another great factor which was included in this mapping was the “You” tag over the moving portrait of the persons trying it. The “You” tag represents the Nokia map’s current position making it more interesting to combine everything together.
gluk media - velcom interactive projection mapping http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJeWV3uugtI
This is one fascinating interactive projection mapping where it really shows a great value of interactivity. This projection mapping allowed people to use iPads and control the projection themselves. The people were allowed to move light trails all over the building by simply swiping their fingers over the iPads screens, light up different sections of the building’s windows by simply pressing the corresponding button on the iPads and also playing different notes from musical instruments onto the speakers. This is one of the most interactive projection mapping’s I’ve seen yet and I can confirm that it’s quite a good one. The building was well covered and the mapped windows were also well lighted up and well placed. The colours used were very vivid making the audience more interested and the sound was massive.
contrex mineral water interactive projection mapping http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFePbZTuSak
This is a mineral water’s company advertising 3D projection mapping targeted for women which is really interactive. It is really aimed for women and I hate such things but I can say I enjoyed watching it from beginning to end due to its interactivity. Contrex placed cycling machines in front of a tall building allowing women to form a group and cycle up to see the visuals. When the people start cycling, a pink line will come out from underneath the bicycle machine going up the stairs and onto the wall finally forming a figure of a man which seems to starts stripping encouraging the women to speed up their pace on the bycicle. Apart the interactivity in this piece, the projection is well planned since the man comes in and out of the side column of the building showing good mapping and planning. Finally the man comes out naked but holding a banner covering up his body saying “You lost 2000 calories which is a great ending surprise to the people. The persons taking part in the projection were all given a Contrex bottle of mineral water. Here we can also see great advertising followed by awesome projection and interactivity.

light trails interactive projection mapping http://vimeo.com/11870296
Light Trails is actually a projected light sculpture with an intention to re-define and re-interpret an exhibition room. This mapping was easy to create but very effective. Six individual projectors were used to map the geometry of the interactive content. The interactivity in this projection mapping is that it allows anybody to touch the beginning of any of the six light bars, creating a moving trail of light on the specified bar whenever it is touched. Any person can touch any bar in any order to outcome any different form of light trail. I really loved this projection mapping since it is very clean and minimal, simple but innovative. It is also interactive making one involved well in the form of how light comes out.

xbox kinekt hack to making interactive 3d mapping http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaIBfZYRCPI
Project by Marynel Vázquez and Madeline Gannon | kinecting the virtual to the physical world This project was inspired by the work of an incredibly talented community of artists and designers that are using video mapping as a medium to reinterpret and transform banal, expected environments. The work of Pablo Valbuena was a strong influence over our explorations, and we sought to introduce dynamic interactivity to augmented sculpture as our novel addition to this community. Developed in C++, Openframeworks, and OpenNI, we are using the depth mapping capabilities of the kinect to evaluate the viewer(participant’s) hand, and position it as the light source of the physical model. In effect, their hand becomes the sun, lighting or dimming our abstracted cityscape. *produced at Carnegie Mellon University for Golan Levin’s Interactive Art and Computation Design course

now in production hammer graphic design exhibtion http://hammer.ucla.edu/exhibitions/detail/exhibition_id/218
This is the most Form of Exhibition I enjoyed surfing through since it’s completely my style. 100% clean and well organised. Everything is presented in large spaces and large prints, in a clean environment on lots of white space. Lighting is bright white which is really lively and fresh. Apart content presented on white space, the floor is covered in parquet which enriches the exhibitions level. The presented content is of a high level standard which was surely created with lots of thinking. The most room I enjoyed viewing was the first room since it is the most minimal looking room. There is Lots of white space on all walls except for the large front facing wall representing a black and white typography mural. The mural is well gridded all out representing the proper typography for each meaning. On the white walls there is also presented displays which are also kept clean and aligned. I really loved the blue strap on the beginning of the room on the right wall since it is completely presented in such an eye catchy way. The big blue strap opts very well with the whiteness and minimalism of the whole room. I think that it is the description of the room which one will see when he / she come in. The 2nd most room I liked was the one in the third photo since it represents cleanliness again and is very minimal throughout. And I noticed the fact that when there is a white visual to be presented, the wall was painted in another colour and all the white content was hung onto the orange wall. This was the most interesting exhibition to see in my opinion and I wish that I have found more images in a higher resolution or a 360 degree panoramic view.
tokyo graphics passport 201 http://yourfriends.no/project/tokyo-graphic-passport-2010/
This is my second favourite exhibition since its super clean again but this time is a bit more experimental. I really like the fact that everywhere is painted in pure white showing a completely large and clear room. The fact that all the projects inside this exhibition contain a high amount of whites, matches well with the overall white and clear theme. Though this is minimal in some way or another, it is also experimental since who build up the whole set decided to place large format prints on grungy pallets and paint the front line of the shelving yellow. In my opinion they managed to experiment well still keeping everything at a minimal state. I wish to know what actually was used on the floor not to keep the marks of every dirty shoes coming in since one needs to consider that lots and lots of people come in to see the content every day, so the floor needs to be covered in some kind of special paint not to keep any marks.
coca cola 125th year Exhibition https://vimeo.com/36321631
In this exhibition Coca Cola did manage to amaze me quite well since they decided to map all the walls in the exhibition area and project a panoramic view on them describing history and taking the viewer into a time experience. This is still a clean form of exhibition where one decided to use just projectors to display his content in a specified room or area. This will surely take quite a long time to set up and get running but is finally a great value of success and appreciation. I can imagine this kind of mapping in our school at the end of year exhibition where we project our entire works one after each other as projected media on the walls of some kind of room in the school.
the ophiles papers experimental graphic exhibition http://theophilespapers.tumblr.com/tagged/Panorama-n%C2%B015
This is another exhibition I enjoyed seeing since its way experimental. Always keeping it on the clean side, the artists managed to experiment with some content down the stairs. When people starts walking down the stairs they are provided with different un-proportioned shelves holding different projects and visuals like for examples posters and books. Due to books being held in such placed one can also show a sense of confusion since lots of people will be seeing stuff in the staircase making it a little bit too loaded. I liked the way the books are presented onto the different shelves all being black and white making a single conjunction as one whole exhibit. I would like to try out this in the final school’s exhibitions by creating shelves around the walls of the mid staircase and placing different things that visitors may see. The only problem at school is that the staircase is always being used by and during the exhibition time it is already too busy, so if this amount of visuals will be added there will be a complete traffic jam up the stairs. From this exhibition I also liked the fact that it is kept cleanly white all over but the creators still managed to change themes using just one colour since the upper floor is actually contemporary and sleek while it turns to a completely different style being grungy, cracked and old when it comes to the stairs by changing the light colour and revealing all the cracks and piping on the wall.
graphic design mfa thesis http://art.yale.edu/2012GDMFA
In my opinion, this is a wonderful exhibition using lots of experimental features all over. It is another exhibition where white space is a priority to keep everything clean and fresh. Everything painted white and covered in white. White is something really matching when coming to clean presentations. Apart all the whites, the creators used pallets and large raw boxes with industrial words such as “Fragile and facing arrow diagrams. This was used as tables and stands to present the content present in the exhibition. The lighting in the room is really great although I would have suggested covering the windows in some kind of wrapping to avoid outside reflections and shadows over the content inside. Another great experimental feature present in this exhibition is the use of old CRT televisions which are black showing a good contrast over everything else from contemporary and modern, to old and bulky. During this exhibition there were also lots of projected content using high quality imagery to compliment with the rest of the visuals. In my opinion this is another great exhibition showing a great knowledge of placement and design.
