EDUCATION July 2019 – Current Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Architecture UCSI University, School of Architecture and Built Environment

ABOUT ME I’m currently studying in the first year of BA (Hons) in Architecture in UCSI University. In this short and enjoyable year studying at

University has enhanced my manual drawing skills to produce a range of drawing from orthographic to perspectives. I consider myself as a diligent and motivated person who enjoys the challenge of assignments given. As an architecture student, I am

keen on learning and broadening my knowledge and skills in

SKILLS Technical

All students will be divided into 4 categories which are Hill, Forest, River and Sea. Then form a group of 6-7 members. Me as one of the group member had suggested River as

our precedent study. After that,, we are required to choose a building each designed by

the

different Architect

architects, and

which

are

Contemporary

Architect. The purpose of choosing precedent is to understand the building anatomy and convey its conceptual ideas behind these works. Therefore we decided to pick Le

Corbusier

as

our

modernist

precedent

architect as well as Robert Henry Oshatz as our contemporary precedent architect for this analysis.

PRECEDENT STUDIES

.

MODERNIST ARCHITECT LE CORBUSIER Le Corbusier was a Swiss-born French architect who belonged to the first generation of the so-called International school of architecture. In his architecture, he chiefly built with steel and reinforced concrete and worked with elemental geometric forms. Le Corbusier's painting emphasized clear forms and structures, which corresponded to his architecture. We have chosen his creation which is Villa Le Lac as our precedent study. Villa Le Lac Designed between 1923 and 1924, was one of Le Corbusier's first built projects and the earliest of the batch of 17 of the architect's projects recently listed by heritage body UNESCO.

Villa Le Lac PRECEDENT STUDIES

Le Corbusier

From the modernist architect which is Le Corbusier, we have chosen his creation which is Villa Le Lac as

our precedent study building. We have expressed the analysis of the precedent study by making collages. The collages consist of some abstract interpretation of the design principles that found

out in the Villa Le Lac.

.

We have mix different kinds of material to let the collage looks extraordinary. The materials that we were using are balsa woods and some recycled materials such as, newspapers, cardboards, plastic water bottles and etc.

CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECT ROBERT HENRY OSHATZ In 1971, Robert Oshatz established the firm of Robert Harvey Oshatz, Architect. Over the years the firm has provided a wide variety of organic architecture, planning, interior design and construction management services for developers and individual clients. Robert Harvey Oshatz, Architect has designed and built numerous commercial and residential projects over the past fourty plus years.

Fennell Residence The Fennell Residence presented a unique challenge as the site was “on” the Willamette River as opposed to “by”

the river. The project is focused on the poetry of the ripples and contours of the river, it’s never ending flow, the view,

For the contemporary architect which is Robert Henry Oshatz, we have chosen Fennell Residence as our precedent study building. We have inserted the design principles and concepts of the building into the collages. We have mix different kinds of material to let it look extraordinary. PROJECT 2 SENSE OF SPACE: DESIGNING FOR ATHLETES 2A SITE INTRODUCTION 2B UNDERSTANDING CLIENT 2C WORKING SPACE EXPLORATION

On 4th of February, we got the opportunity to do a site visit at Sungai Congkak, Hulu Langat. The aim is to understand and experience the existing conditions of the site. We had done a lot of

research

pictures studies. 2A SITE INTRODUCTION

for

and

take

precedent

After site visiting at Sungai Congkak, some of us found out that we couldn’t choose a perfect location for our next project which is working space exploration. We think that we should explore more river nearby and get more precedent study so that we can enhanced our horizon. After a week of getting

permission

from

our

group

instructor, we went to another nearby river which is Sungai Gabai successfully.

Sketches of site 2A SITE INTRODUCTION

After collecting all the studies from the site visit, we have to choose one potential client who is an athlete from different I have selected a client which is Takanori Nakamura from Japan. He is a master of martial arts who holds the 7th Dan of Kendo (The 2nd highest rank in the martial arts of Japanese fencing). He also has commented on fashion, culture, gourmet, travel, and luxury lifestyle in magazines, newspapers, and on TV. His pastimes

were writing columns and essays, he often write for magazines as a columnist. His favorite hobby is perform tea ceremony and thus, he became instructor for the Japan Tea Ceremony Association. By collecting all information from my client, I have created a story board of him. This is to show sequence of events, daily schedule and activities that is related to the my client’s training, works or hobby. 2B UNDERSTANDING CLIENT

WORKING SPACE For Project 2B, students are to produce a working space for their client themselves. The size of the training / working / retreat space will be within 50sqm. I had created a space for my client, Nakamura to do his activity during weekend. This space is located at the intermediate height of Sungai Gabai by the riverside. The space have separated into 3 areas which are : dojo, reading area and tea ceremony space. The dojo area and the other spaces have separated by a

huge storage shelf to store books and equipment as well as divide the spaces. The tea ceremony space are located outdoor with a floating structure in order to have a fresh air and enjoying the scenery of the river.

PROJECT 3 SPORTMAN’S CAPSULE: HABITABLE ARCHITECTURE

SPORTSMAN‘S CAPSULE In the final project, students are required to design a Sportsman’s Capsule (training/ workstation/ retreat house for temporary living) where the client can have a temporary retreat space for themselves according to the site. This is the continuation of the space that students have designed in previous project.
