Dallas, Texas NEXT is a Think Tank organization that works to assist entrepreneurs in their search for innovation. Entrepreneurs are hired on for a three-month period, during which employees of NEXT , who have backgrounds in Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, Industrial Design, Anthropology and Sociology, will act as consultants to develop their ideas and turn them into reality. The office is designed to foster collaboration and creativity, and is focused around employee wellbeing. A new, cohesive brand and aesthetic will help attract the best and brightest entrepreneurs to the office. Innovation does not dismiss pastinvention, It feeds off of it. Ideas build on one another, evolving into something better and leaving the remnants as a map of the ideation process. The posts that first made long distance communication possible have taken on a new, unintentional cultural context, albeit one of much lower technology. They have become a street corner hub for the trading of ideas and information among passersby. In this spirit, the NEXT office should be a place for people to share and learn from one another.

Veranda assisted living Panama City, Panama

The Veranda Assisted Living facility is a part of the new Panama Pacifico development just outside of Panama City, Panama. Veranda provides the option of one and two-bedroom apartments in the two-story assisted living wing, and secure studio apartments in the memory care unit. Upscale amenities and finishes assure residents that they are not sacrificing, but are in fact upgrading to a luxurious retirement community. Veranda cannot be simply defined as ‘a covered outdoor patio’, but also as the threshold between the natural environment and private space. We celebrate the idea of being able to choose one’s own path, and our interiors are conducive to an active lifestyle as well as to sitting back and enjoying the view.

restoration hardware Via delle Botteghe Oscure, 35 Rome, Italy The challenge of this project was to convert a small space in the center of Rome into the first Restoration Hardware location in Europe. The store must represent the American Restoration Hardware brand, but also respond to the architecture of the existing building, and the shopping behaviors of Italians. The concept for the store was ‘layers’ which was inspired by the Torre Argentina ruins that lie just west of the store. An atrium space exists along the north wall which is open to all three levels, and is intended to expose the different layers of construction materials used in the building.

OMA exhibition hall Stockholm, Sweden

The goal of this project was to design an exhibition hall dedicated to the work of architect Rem Koolhaas. A pure white model was constructed in order to focus on the architectural features of the building, which pays tribute to the architectural style of Koolhaas. Careful attention was paid to the design of the large, irregular windows. Because of the building’s modest size, which is quite contrary to Koolhaas style of work, the vast windows make the space feel larger by pushing the line of sight past the interior walls. Natural daylighting and warmth from the sun also help to counteract Sweden’s long winters.

isu extension office Nevada, Iowa Iowa State University Extension offices work with the community to educate individuals, strengthen businesses and improve the overal quality of life for Iowa’s citizens. The Story County Extenstion office can be broken down into three areas: the main office, classroom/meeting room, and a large event hall. Their facility needs to be updated in order to meet ADA guidelines and improve employee welfare and safety. They also need increased storage space and a consistent brand identity. All changes are to adhere to a very strict budget. Iowa’s “patchwork landcape” is a gridded terrain with organic and constructed development. Our approach to the redesign is similar to the patchwork landscape of Iowa. While each office or room works systemically on its own, the overall programming of the space is interwoven and transitions organically.

Gustafson residence Wayzata, Minnesota This multi million dollar home in the Locust Hills Community just west of Minneapolis was designed for Eric and Anna Gustafson. Locust Hills is a newly developed area with natural surrounds and European style. The couple requests a home that seamlessly combines a luxurious Rococo style with a fresh, contemporary feel. Décor must include many pieces from Anna’s personal art collection, as well as Eric’s hockey memorabilia. Eric’s mother was recently diagnosed with cancer and will be temporarily staying in the new home while she undergoes chemotherapy. The word Rococo originates from the French words rocaille, meaning ‘rock’ and the word coquilles, meaning ‘shell’. Using a quite literal translation of the word, the concept was to capture the movement, energy, and colors of the ocean.

eskola residence

Sarasota, Florida This small condominium was designed for Adelina Eskola, a retired woman who is moving to south from her Connecticut estate she once shared with her late husband. Adelina was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and may soon be confined to a wheelchair. Functionality and accessibility are vital, as is storage for her extensive book collection. Adelina’s space was designed to showcase her unique artistic taste, fun sense of style and her Finnish heritage. The concept for the space was to combine the colors of traditional food and native berries of Finland, and the line and form of Finnish furnishings to create a highly functional and open concept condo.
