S/S 14 MEGATRENDS DIGEST By Isham Sardouk | SVP Trend Forecasting As we navigate through the noise of the digital age, we seek a level of clarity, where silence will transcend the noise. We move from augmented realities to augmented spirituality, where we crave contemplative spaces that make us feel, not think. On June 6th, 2012 the second eclipse of Venus occurred. Venus eclipsing the Sun represents an awakening of the Divine Feminine energies in our world. For thousands of years, the world has been ruled by patriarchal societies. These masculine rulers have created wars, power struggles, destruction, pollution, fear, pain, separation and famine. They have shown little or no respect for feminine wisdom or Mother Earth. Recently, information has been revealed that recognizes the truth of how women have affected our history. It is time for the pendulum to swing back towards the Divine Feminine and rest comfortably in the middle. To become whole, we need both the Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine energies, equally in our lives; it is a question of balance. In our megatrend CREED, we undertake a silent journey to explore the mysteries of different worlds: the oceans and its fascinating world of chaos and order, and the infinite space outside our planet. In 2011 the confirmation of the existence of Kepler-22b was announced. Discovered by NASA, the planet is the first to have many similar qualities to planet Earth and also contains the right atmosphere to potentially support life. However, there is a downside: it始s 600 light years away.
Blue takes prominence this season, reflecting our new enchantment with oceanic worlds. Turquoise, algae and bright yellow recall plankton while warmer colors like poppy, mulberry and pink represent coral.
AQUATIC WONDERS Underwater worlds offer new seascapes to explore this season. Fascination with the deep encourages the use of saturated natural colors ranging from deep oceanic blue to acidic lemon. Textures take cue from sea foliage and creatures, inspiring smooth shell surfaces, tentacle textures and wave-like patterns.
Silent Journey Sea treasures, and water itself, inspire a fresh direction for pattern and texture this season. Swirling waves and frothy foam create organic patterns, particularly for menswear. Eroded or encrusted stones contrast with the fluidity of water to develop a range of textured surface effects.
Profound Blue Many designers are exploring the seas as the next territory for development. A range of oceanic blues from deepest navy to indigo, royal blue and sea foam combine to create a contemplative focus. Dale Chihuly始s glass sculptures exemplify this fascination with the deep, reflecting the wonders of aquatic phenomena.
Siren Song Mermaids are mythical creatures that continue to fascinate for their hybrid properties. Beautiful women with fishtails, living under the sea, represent the ultimate fantasy for frothy fashion styles. Alix Malka始s delectable underwater photography reveals a dreamlike ambiance and a level of serenity impossible to achieve on dry land.
