Student Perspectives The city has a mix of historic and modern buildings and everything in between. The world famous “tube” transport system that has been mimicked all over the world provides a fast and efficient way to get around the city. In addition to its urban transportation system, Curitiba provides many amenities for its citizens and tourists alike. Curitiba incorporates many natural elements into the city and even turns once blights on the city into tourist destinations like the old rock quarry into the Opera House!

Structural Growth Corridors

Also the city’s long term commitment to connect its transportation and density is a true example that is just being done in the USA. Curitiba is definitely a place to visit! - Robert Narvaez

Design Proposal: Cultural Corridor

Design Proposal: Student Plaza

Our design proposal transformed Rua João Negrão into a cultural corridor. The corridor would include studio art and performance spaces as well as spaces for student interaction such as bars, cafés, and public open space. Links between historic landmarks and an adjacent corridor would also enrich the cultural experience.

- Create an opening in the wall that is currently a barrier to the street

Suggested Street Design Improvements

-Create a dynamic space for socializing

- Wider sidewalks and vendor removal

-Open grass field for soccer, events, and other outdoor activities

-Protected cycling lanes -Signalized pedestrian crossings -Street trees and unified paving pattern

- Restore the historic elevated bridge and integrate into the public space -New staircase increases access to site - Create a quiet area for reading or resting

-Water feature emulates mountains and river evoking historic journey of trains from the coast - Movable seating for flexibility
