Clemson Planning And Design - Internship Summer 2013 Designed for DP3 Architects

Teak and Granite Benches Clemson, South Carolina Project Scope Design and generate CAD drawings for two custom teak and granite benches to be installed under a new S-shaped pergola on Clemson University’s Tiger Band Practice Field. Aligned with the radii of the curved steel structure, the benches create places for visitors to sit and watch the band practice, shaded from the heat of the afternoon sun.

Critical Issue Location of the exisitng fence, 14’ from the rear property line has limited the use of the yard. HOA approval is requried to relocate the existing back yard fence closer toward the rear property line, regrade, and construct retaining wall.

Cost overruns on the construction of the house left the homeowners with a lean budget for landscaping.

Design Considerations Elements must be aesthetically pleasing and satisfy a functional need. Required replacement trees planted along property/fence line create privacy, gravel areas provide additional parking, permeable hardscaping material allows for storm water runoff, and ground cover planting under shade tree defines a walkway.

Implementation of Clemson University’s Bikeways Master Plan called for the redesign and widening of an existing roadway to accommodate new bike lanes.

Generate construction documents, conduct field measurements, and coordinate with project manager and engineers to layout and stripe new design per specifications.

Replacement of several mature and unhealthy oak trees on the Clemson University campus offered an opportunity to enhance the surrounding landscape.

Create a connection and soften the area between the President’s back yard walled garden and the campus by planting edible varieties of figs and pomegranates.

Project Scope Concept sketches created and presented to a suburban country club seeking to refresh its entrance landscape to reflect the recent expansion of its club house and renovation of its golf course.
