01 Millennial Library Istanbul library as a museum The role of the library in contemporary society is changing. In the digital age there is a devaluation of physical media because people can get access to digital files everywhere and anytime. To show the importance of the physical artifact, this library will organize its content by publish date. This will give an overview of the evolution of media throughout history. By exhibiting the physical artifacts, the people will be made aware of the importance of it.

02 MEDIATHEQUE MARSEILLE the city as a library In this design studio we were asked to design a mediatheque for Marseille (France), the European Cultural Capital 2013. After analyzing the city I found out that Marseille contains a rich cultural program, but that it is hidden and unconnected. Instead of adding another building and leaving the rich cultural program scattered around Marseille, I decided to create an open system that reveals and articulates the excisting program and adds that what is missing. In order to do that, I needed to understand the role that a mediatheque has in contemporary society. The city becomes the library. The library understands the city and adds value to it by articulating what was already there. The city as a library is a true public building. To create this flexible, open system the three basis elements of architecture (lines, points & planes) are used on different scales.

03 DWELLING BREDA gate to the city This residential tower in Breda marks the city center and investigates new social connections between the inhabitants. The tower houses seniors and students. The site is located next to a canal that marks the city center. Historically, a gate would mark this significant location. In this design I tried to investigate the relationship and benefits for the inhabitants, even though they have completely different and contradicting lifestyles. The building tries to stimulate a sharing culture between the inhabitants. Students have mobility and energy while seniors usually have time and knowledge, a combination between this could benefit both.
