We are all about Building Resilience in Kids and an important component is Character. Definitions may vary from family to family but most of us would agree that we would want our children to be responsible, have integrity, act kindly and contribute to the community in which they live. Children start to build their character naturally by copying others and repeating words that their hear their parents say. Children are naturally curious and will explore their environment to collect new information. It is more than teaching the difference between right and wrong, it's the moral, social and emotional values. too. The activities in this workbook promote these skills.

HELP S TO BE US A GOOD PERS ON
What's Character? It is the qualities that make us a good person for example being kind by sitting next to someone at school, who is sitting alone. What's Contribution? It is where we help others with time or money e.g.picking up litter in the community, random acts of kindness. Role models show us what good character and contribution are on the following pages. You can print them out and put them on your wall.

ROLE MODELS We have had a look at famous people who are role model for what they have done, what they have given to charity or what they have stood for. Now let's have a look at role models in your life. This first poster fill with someone that is a role model for you. You might choose them because they are kind. You might choose them because they stand up for themselves or others. You might choose them because you want to be like them. The second poster is for you. Why not write the kind of things that you do, that would make you a role model for others. Don't forget your photo!

WALK IN MY SHOES
Walking in my shoes is about the difference you can make to people you know, in the community or in the world. There are many people in the world that are not as lucky as us. They may not have enough money, they may not have a home to live in, or they don't have a family. Maybe they're an animal that has lost it habitat and or even it's family. Maybe do something to help the environment like Greta. It's important for us to try and help whenever we can, even if its only in small ways. Not only is it good to volunteer to help but also helps us too. It's FUN! You can make a DIFFERENCE You get to make new FRIENDS You learn new SKILLS

Gratitude
It's not Happy people that are grateful, It's Grateful people that are happy
Gratitude What is Gratitude? It is when we say thank you for something
Why should we be grateful? Wires our brain for more positive outlook, Reduce fear and worry by regulating our stress hormone, Boost our happy hormones, Improve our immune system, Help us sleep better, Assist us in becoming better communicators, Promote Resilience, Reduce our tendency to compare ourselves to others.
How do we use gratitude? Pick a time of the day to write your gratitude list, perfect time would be after your affirmation. Choose one way to practice gratitude - lots of ideas on the next few pages. 21 days is a perfect time to train our brain.
______ Gratitude List People in my family

Gratitude Jar
A gratitude jar is a great activity to do as a family. Pick one thing each you are grateful for and why. Jot it on a note and pop it in the jar. Do this everyday, opening the jar as a family once it is full. Then you can share what you were all grateful for.

Keeping a journal is a perfect place to write your gratitide list. Choose 3 things that you are grateful for everyday and why you are grateful for it e.g. "I am grateful for my music because it makes me happy."
COMPLIMENT LETTERS
Science says that if we compliment someone it lights up a part of their brain and makes them feel good about themselves.
Write a letter to someone you know. This a chance to shine a spotlight on them,. Say how much we appreciate them and thanking them for their service . You could also thank them for what they done for us and what makes them so good at what they do.
