Our Wildlife Training Courses promise a rewarding learning experience delivered on some of the most rich and diverse wildlife spaces in the county.
Our wide range of training courses for adults cover many wildlife related subjects including species identification, survey skills, art, photography and more. Every course is led by experienced professionals who are experts in their fields. Courses are graded for beginners, intermediate and advanced levels to help you to identify which course is suitable for you.

Each year we organise hundreds of events to enthuse people of all ages about the wildlife on their doorstep, including our suite of training courses detailed in this leaflet.

For over 50 years Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust has been protecting local wildlife across the county. Part of a network of 47 Wildlife Trusts we manage 67 Nature Reserves in Nottinghamshire and work with farmers and landowners to help restore habitats in our countryside and towns.

Both centres are on one level and designed for good wheelchair access. However some parts of the nature reserves used in the training courses may be more difficult to access. Introduction to Herbal Remedies
A morning taster session looking at the rich historical uses of medicinal plants and herbs of Britain. You’ll take an easy stroll around the reserve to identify medicinal plants that grow at Idle Valley. Then back at the learning centre you’ll look further at the uses and benefits of using herbal medicine, including a handson workshop to uncover to herbal remedies can be made.

This course covers the essential techniques required to assess wildlife habitats and sites using Phase I Habitat Surveys. This is suited to anyone wishing to carry out basic ecological surveys in relation to conservation, site management, planning and development. Through this course you’ll learn about the key features of the Asteraceae (Daisy family). Develop your knowledge of the key features for identifying dandelion lookalikes. Use a range of keys to decide which genus a dandelion look-alike is in and gain confidence in identifying dandelion look-alikes. The course leaders will assume you have knowledge of botany and botanical terms. Tutor: Margaret Crittenden

If you have any particular dietary requirements or allergies please contact Attenborough Nature Centre. For courses involving time outdoors, please bring suitable outdoor clothing and footwear. Some areas of the reserve are exposed so sunscreen is required in warm weather, and wind-proof clothing is required in colder weather. Please notify Attenborough Nature Centre in advance if you have any medical requirement or disability which may affect your participation in the course.
