who we are. why we matter.
Most people hate their jobs.
80%
of adults in America are dissatisfied with their jobs or careers.*
The average adult changes his or her career 5 times over the course of their professional life.
In a similar manner, any given college student will change their major at least 3 times in the course of their college experience.
This can lead to the student transferring, to a new university. This action has numerous hidden costs including loss of earned credits, taking more time to complete a degree, loss of possible income combined with extra tuition payments, as well as the social cost of transferring into a new student body.

We aim to change that by engaging motivated students. Next believes that career dissatisfaction throughout adult life as well as confusion in college are largely caused by the lack of direction in high school. Students who have
the skills and talent but not the informed experience may not find their true passion for years without this direction.

At Next, we believe in the power of choice and the power of experience. Next believes that career dissatisfaction throughout adult life as well as confusion in college are largely caused by the lack of direction in high school. Students who have the skills and talent but not the informed experience may not find their true passion for years without this direction. Next provides high school students who plan to attend college a place to log their career aspirations, while simultaneously providing job shadowing opportunities from professionals in the community who have donated their time to help aid these students in their decision making process.
Next realizes the importance of pursuing your passion and believes that with guided, hands on career experience, students will be better equipped to make informed decisions regarding their college choice and desired career path. We urge educators and parents to implement our tool during the first two years of high school so that students have the utmost time to benefit from everything Next has to offer.
Get a closer look at your career. Our website is designed to be student friendly and extremely accessible. Students, professionals, and guidance counselors can create accounts, each of which has a specific, unique function in our program. Professional accounts allow business professionals to register with the program and volunteer their time to provide these valuable student experiences. After they register, the professionals can choose dates
they are available and manage student requests. The guidance counselor account allows guidance counselors to view and manage all the students from their schools, and to observe which experiences the student chooses to pursue, as well as the student’s reactions to that experience.

There is also a component in the website that allows each student to explore the possibilities that the program provides. It acts as sort of an archive of member experiences that any visitor to the website might browse, for encouragement and inspiration.
The student account provides a variety of functions, from recording possible college and career goals, to bookmarking career areas, to determining possible career paths through career personality assessments provided by our partnership with the MyersBriggs Foundation. When a student creates an account, they will take this assessment and be given 3 career path options, each diverse and complimenting individual parts of the student’s personality.
The drop down menus of the career paths contain participating businesses in the student’s area with whom they can schedule a career shadowing experience they will never forget.
We create relationships that inform good decisions for the future. With our tools, high schoolers can meet professionals around their area and learn more about different career fields and opportunities. Although we provide these tools, the students must provide the enthusiasm and eagerness for Next to work. Without this enthusiasm, these relationships cannot succeed as they should
Please encourage the students in your life to get involved with Next. Together, we can help to ensure students around the country a less confused, more secure future.
