VIRGINIA SEAFOOD AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH AND EXTENSION CENTER VIRGINIA TECH FOUNDATION HAMPTON, VA RRMM, SCHEMATIC DESIGN 15,400 SQFT NEW CONSTRUCTION; $8 MIL BUDGET The existing seafood center (AREC) was established in 1975 in their current building with the focus of food science research for the manufacturing and safety of the seafood production industry. The existing facility faces frequent flooding and building settlement issues, and is working with the city to trade their current location for a neighboring land parcel to create a new two story, elevated facility. The site of the current research center will be used by the city of Hampton to become a mixed use waterfront development. The new AREC building’s material palette and design pays homage to he neighboring landmark Virginia Air and Space Museum while respecting the client’s tight budget.

SEEFELDT BUILDING RENOVATION NORTHERN VIRGINIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE, WOODBRIDGE, VA RRMM, AWARDED SEPTEMBER 2017 138,430 SQFT EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR RENOVATION The current Seefeldt Building is a drab, EIFS-covered building with very limited window openings and a low utilization ratio. For our design, the EIFS will be replaced with a warm brick skin, and floor-to-ceiling storefront. When completed, this structure will serve as the campus’ new student services and general classroom building. I was heavily involved in the interview preparation process, contributing design ideas, working in Revit by modeling/ rendering, and creating presentation images in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
MARKOS RESIDENCE LAKE GENEVA, WISCONSIN VON WEISE ASSOCIATES, JANUARY - APRIL 2014 10,000 SQFT NEW CONSTRUCTION, INDEFINITELY ON HOLD The vacation home, located on a steep hill facing Lake Geneva, is for a retired couple that wishes to entertain lots of guests and friends during their stay. The house sculpts the steepgrade land with Serra-inspired corten steel retaining walls that provides visitors with a meandering experience as they navigate through the site of the house. During my internship, I created the presentation site plan and built a basswood and chipboard model with one other person.
REDMOON THEATER PILSEN, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS TEAM OF 4 PEOPLE, SPRING 2014 Redmoon was a civically-engaged theater company that performed in the local community with large whimsical props in low income neighborhoods. These free outdoor performances were supported by ticketed indoor performances and activites in their Pilsen warehouse. The architectural intervention in the warehouse’s West Wing employs a system of reconfigurable platforms that allows their creative warehouse to enrich indoor performances and serve community programs as a built-in, spatial contraption.

THE NARRATIVE OF A LAYERED ARCHITECTURE FIFTH YEAR THESIS PROJECT, VIRGINIA TECH FALL 2014 - SPRING 2015 How can we play with the way we design to better replicate how we experience architecture? Like a plot of a book, architecture reveals itself to us in layers of spatial boundaries, a totality of collected stills and impressions in our mind. In my fifth year thesis, I attempted to explore this idea through designing a building as a drawn out narrative going from the outside-in. As the number of layers of drawings increased, lines from earlier drawings become faded while repeated elements and more recent drawings remained strongly visible and influential.
THE VERTEBRAE BURCHARD HALL, VIRGINIA TECH INDEPENDENT GROUP PROJECT, SPRING 2015 The Vertebrae was a felt architectural intervention designed by a small group of students interested in parametric design that addressed the center circulation aisle of Burchard Hall. The design team utilized Grasshopper and Rhinoceros to calculate lengths of material needed for the design and to manipulate the curves using gravity as a key design variable of the installation’s existence.
