This magazine is a culmination of years of heart work that many of us from the Arizona Informant Foundation family have been engaged in to help our community get stronger and healthier. Within these pages you will find resources and information to help you make choices that will bring health and wellness to your families. Each season, the editors will bring you much-needed information about healthful living, healthful eating and what you need to know now to live long and well. African Americans are a relatively small population in Arizona, making up about 4 percent of the population. But we disproportionately are dying from heart disease, cancer, injury, stroke and diabetes. We have higher rates of HIV/AIDS, infant mortality, hypertension and kidney disease than any other group in Arizona, according to state health department records. Homicide and death due to gun play are still major causes of death. We hope AAAH! Magazine will assist you in a commitment to get healthy and stay alive. The Arizona Informant Foundation will also pump money into needed programs to help the most vulnerable in our communities get the assistance that they need.
