of Architecture. However I am still in the process of completing trigonometry in the summer and calculus in the fall. I also took 2-dimensional design at CNM. The transfer was a tremendous deal for my family and I because none of my relatives had ever attended college, much less, The University. My family has May 13, 2011 been 100% supportive, and for that, I take pride in being the best that I can possibly be, and hopefully one day, will express this through my love for design. To The University of New Mexico One may ask, Why architecture? School of Architecture and Planning, Well, I am a very spontaneous and somewhat impulsive person. Not saying that I do not have patience, but I need things to My name is Estanislado Saavedra. I am constantly evolve in my life. Architecture from Albuquerque and currently enis a profession that is never static, which rolled under the University College at I love about it. To me, architecture is a The University of New Mexico. I recently lifestyle, not a job. I view my physical surtransferred from Central New Mexico roundings, as objects of design, noticing Community College. The past two and a everything from materials, form, massing, half years have been a challenge for me etc... I think about how the architect was because I left high school with an absofaced with these decisions and had to lute certainty that a career in architecture develop a process, and look deep within was what I would pursue. him/herself as a designer, to create a Being as architecture is a highly result. competitive field, I ambitiously worked I want to design and build because to get to this point. I began my college I want to contribute to the world, a part career taking remedial classes (mostly of myself. I want to leave a trace of what math), which seemed extremely repetitive I believe is modern, or innovative, just and somewhat unnecessary. At times this architects in history have done. Not only was frustrating, and made me feel like it that, I am eager to learn to be innovative would be impossible for me to reach the and train my eyes and mind to see things day I would apply to the UNM School through the lenses of an architect.
I am not 100% sure about where I would take my career, or what exactly I would focus on, but that is what sets architecture apart from other professions. The challenge one takes on to create something beautiful, not only for themselves, but for everyone that interacts with it, and the ambition to get results no matter how big the problem is. From what I have seen, one can give an architect any problem, and the architect will give back ten solutions. An architect is who I see myself becoming, and nothing makes me more satisfied than imagining all the things I know I am capable of doing with this education. Thank you for considering me for your school. I hope to do many great things at this university, and I hope to see you this fall! Sincerely,
Estanislado Ramon Saavedra

TWO-DIMENSIONAL DESIGN
Page 6
This assignment was to develop a value scale and design a pattern to express simultaneous contrast. all values were mixed by hand.

Page 8
The assignment was to create a simple collage, and match every color using paint mixing techniques. Next, was to replicate the collage on illustration board using acrylic paint.

This goal of this project was to create a collage. Next, cut out two rectangles from it, and complete the missing pieces of the collage using the values of the grayscale with acryllic paint.

STAIRS IN PEARL HALL The objective of this assignment was to understand drawing accurate freehand perspectives of the stairs in Pearl Hall, using vanishing points and construction lines.

This assignment indroduced orthographic projection principles, and smooth renderings with all ten tones of the grayscale. Helped to further develop freehand pencil drawing skills.

Transformation from tool to insect. Introduction to architectural drafting. In this assignment, we were required to apply analytical skills in architectural drawing and design issues. the use of scale and proportion were necessary, and the use of line weights were mandatory. This assignment really refined my technical drawing, and smooth rendering techniques.

Bass-wood Model This model was based on the city of “Zobeide” in Calvino’s Invisible Cities. This assignment was aimed towards translating an abstract idea into architectural form, focusing on principles such as: Hierarchy, rhythm, balance and proportion. The main goal was to translate a conceptual idea that we took from the story, and design something architectural from that concept.

In this part of the assignment, I was required to utilize all drawing and drafting techniques acquired this semester to adequately draft plans, sections, elevations, perspectives and an isometric drawing. Line weights were crucial.
