Why Design

I think design it’s the main key for everything . You need design to feel alive, to create spaces and places that you can call home. as well as for work such as offices and retail spaces. In Cuba my parents didn’t have a lot of resources( money) so my dad used to make furniture for people, out any materials that he could find ( wood, metal ,plastic), he used to sell it , also used to make it for our house so every time that he would make furniture I used to go with him and helped him out and I loved it, it was so much fun I loved to put pieces together and see how nothing became something amazing .

I wasn’t going to study design I was doing business( which I was suffering because I didn’t like it ),at that time I was working in a restaurant where it was beautiful so many people wanted to get marry there, the wedding planner used to ask me for help, and they loved my ideas, one time one of them told me that Design was a professional career called Interior Architecture and here I'm studying what I like.

01:Architect History 02:About the Project 03:The use of Color 04:Conclusion 05:References CONTENT

Luis Barragan

(1902-1988) was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. His professional training was in engineering, resulting in a degree at the age of twenty-three. His architectural skills were self-taught. In the 1920s, he traveled extensively in France and Spain and, in 1931, lived in Paris for a time, attending Le Corbusier's lectures. His time in Europe, and subsequently in Morroco, stimulated an interest in the native architecture of North Africa and the Mediterranean, which he related to construction in his own country. Barragán called himself a landscape architect, writing in the book, Contemporary Architects, (Muriel Emanuel (ed.) published by St. Martins Press, 1980), "I believe that architects should design gardens to be used, as much as the houses they build, to develop a sense of beauty and the taste and inclination toward the fine arts and other spiritual values." And further, "Any work of architecture which does not express serenity is a mistake."

About The Project

Luis Barragan House and Studio, also known as Casa Luis Barragan, is the architect’s former residence in Mexico City. Initially completed in 1948, it has now become a museum exhibiting Barragan’s work, and it is owned by the Fundación de Arquitectura Tapatía and the Government of the State of Jalisco. The translucent, closed reticulated library window is the single item projecting over the plane of the façade. Almost the entire exterior conserves the plastered concrete’s color and natural roughness where only the pedestrian and automobile entrance doors and the window’s ironwork are painted. In this sobriety, the upper left angle of the façade contrasts with two planes that form a corner: yellow and orange. Finally, the white tower’s verticality used as a water deposit crowns the house’s silhouette against the sky.

About The Colors

The Use Of Colors

The

colors in this project are kind of influenced by Chucho

Reyes Ferreria

Light pink: comes from the bougainvillea.

Red-rust : is extracted from the flowers of tabachin.

Light-purple: is the color of the jacaranda flowers.

Blue : is the color of the sky and sometimes Barragán also used blue walls to extend the cloudless sky in patios or for interior spaces.

Yellow : relates to Barragan’s spirituality

CONCLUSION

Luis Barragan House and Studio in Mexico City is a colorful house. Every color in the house has a meaning. This house was considered the house of light and brightness. His compositions include walls with both rough and smooth textures. Walls providing shade and smaller or screened windows contribute to a comfortable atmosphere in these areas. The walls in Barragán’s architecture not only carefully had frame views, but also cast shadow or render the play of shadows by trees.

Rough textures and water reflections heighten the impact of bright sunlight in his colorful buildings

Dolce Gabbana, Tokyo

Content Introduction Contrast Of Hue Contrast Of Value Contrast Of Design Feature Contrast Of Texture Focal Point References

Introduction

Dolce and Gabbana’s history goes back a long time. They created their first-ever collection in 1986, and they titled it ‘Real Women.’ In 1987, they came up with their knitwear line before they moved on to their ready-to-wear line. They set up this new line in Dolce’s family Atelier in Milan. However, in 1989, Dolce and Gabbana established their lingerie and beachwear attire. With expansion came the need for more stores and office space. The fashion house opened its design studio dubbed the ‘La Sede di via San Damiano’ in 1995. In 2002 they moved to the ‘Lo showroom di via Goldoni’ which is a seven-floor building combining a boutique and corporate space.

Dolce & Gabbana also opened international stores in Europe and other regions. The first store in London, England opened in 2004. Over the years it has expanded into Asia and the Oceania region. The first Dolce & Gabbana store in Australia opened in 2010 in Melbourne. As of 2016, there were 221 Dolce & Gabbana stand-alone stores across 41 countries. It also operates boutiques in department stores and has 15 office locations across 6 countries. The fashion house is currently headquartered on a 10,000 meter-square office complex in Milan Italy

Contrast Of Hue

In Tokyo Dolce Gabbana store black, white and color always appear in the design. The use of these colors in the design is to create a dramatic setting of strong contrast. All the ceiling, walls, and display are painted matte black. The designer on this occasion wanted to connect the future of dolce Gabbana with the past.Using color at full intensity is a very striking method for forming interesting focal points. The colors of lower intensities are more subtle and are enjoyed for secondary elements or general room use.As colors become less intense and lighter, the contrast factor diminishes and contrast for dominance is more difficult to attain.

Contrast Of Design Feature

This picture right here expresses the luxury of this store. The jewelry section exhibited in a gold painted alcoved grounded with a golden silk rug. It looks like a safe box from a bank which provides more mystery to the store.Graphically, emphasis can be established as hierarchy of information when the information is presented in alternative styles.

Contest Of Texture

In the photo on top, we can see some texture on the wall where is the display area, and on the back of the store where the jewelry is located. The texture in this case is clean the designer was using color to represent what he wanted to transmit which was the past and the future of Dolce Gabbana. The colors are Gold for the jewelry and black matte for the display walls, the high ceiling as wells has some texture treatment( black matte ).Using color and texture contrasts (smooth vs. rough) can add emphasis.

Focal Point

The focal point in this design is the color gold, if the designer where have painted the stairs or the jewelry another color would have not looked the same. The high-contrast lighting also contributes to the choreographed experience.A symmetrical balance draws your eyes to the center of a composition or room layout, so does color used with emphasis draw your attention to the color first and the object second.

COLOR + WORKPLACE

M.11

Campari Group

When Campari’s bacame the biggest sales market in USA, executives decided to move the company from its San Francisco headquarters east. New York would be closer to Milan and other parts of its empire and help recruit top talent. Now, apply that to a modern, collaborative work environment in the heart of Manhattan. With the goal of attracting top talent and nurturing creativity among existing employees, the inviting design features a 100% open workplan and a variety of huddle lounges, quiet spaces, phone rooms, and meeting spaces – with common, shared spaces actually outnumbering the Knoll-designed sit/stand workstations.

Lines And Shapes

Lines and shapes are one of the most important elements to consider to design, this place has a lot of organic shapes and curves. We can observe curves at the bar, and on the furniture also the lines on the bar with the color red represent the color of the company. The lines in the stairs and ceiling (with lights) show you the way where you should go.

Texture And Patterns

This place doesn’t have a lot of texture, we can see the most of the texture where the elevator is located, also the bar and the walls from the lunch area. The use of textures and value contrasts is important in creating visual interest in the space without enough visual contrast, can be confusing and potentially add to safety concerns if changes in floor and other surface levels are not easily identifiable.

COLOR + Hospitality The Edition Hotel LOCATION:
DESIGNER:Ian
M.12
Miami Beach
Schrager

Main Lobby

The Edition Hotel Lobby : The lobby of this hotel is very unique bringing the outdoors indoors. The Shapes and texture of the ceiling bring luxury to the hotel. This hotel transmits the local environment of Miami Beach with this beautiful design.

Color + Lines : the connection between two points in space. A line can create many shapes, define forms, and include icons and symbols. We can observe in this main entrance vertical lines like the columns that are supporting the building. Also, the glass on the back has many lines which represent decorative lines. In these examples, we can also see light on the lamps and the furniture.

Color + Shapes: Shape is the result of one or more lines connecting to form a two-dimensional image such as a square, circle, triangle, hexagon, pentagon, or octagon. There is a lot of representation in this case. We see a lot of circles in the ceiling, and columns, but the plant's base also some of the furniture have a lot of circles. There is a combination of square shapes as well in some of the furniture and lamps.

Color + Forms: Form is the perception of the weight, volume, and mass of an object.

Color + Patterns: is the repetitive arrangement of shapes and colors in a systematic horizontal, vertical, diagonal, or organic sequence. In this lobby, we see patterns in circles on the ceiling.

Color + Texture is the visual or tactile surface quality and characteristic of a material that results from the way it is constructed, prepared or combined. In this project we don't observe a lot of texture but er see that the seating area may have some texture.

Bar And Lounge

Color+Lines: Vertical lines symbolize strength and stability, like the columns that support a building. We see lines in the floors also the furniture has a lot of vertical lines.

Color+ Shapes: There are a lot of circles in this project, the columns, the ceiling some of the lamps, and also the plants. The circle represents fluid movement, not something static, and enables the eye to travel around freely.

Color+Forms: The light and dark areas on the surface convey a sense of depth even though the object may be relatively flat or have little mass.

Color+ Patterns: Pattern scale, material textures and finishes, and color harmony all work simultaneously to produce visually interesting designs. We see a lot of patterns in the columns, plants, and furniture in this lounge area.

Color+Texture: Physical texture is the actual tactile texture and characteristic of the materialon the surface that can be felt. Texture can also be perceptual or visually implied by using pattern, repetition, value, and contrast to produce the illusion or appearance of texture, such as faux finishes which replicate the appearance of.
