This spring, sharpen your chipping, pitching, and patience with the following practice regimen:

When the golfer practices pinching a ball with a chip or pitch stroke, the club is hitting the ball before the ground

Although most of you already know that, not everyone does. The key for that “pinch shot is to simply place the ball slightly behind the center of your stance and maintain a steady, stable and still head position throughout the stroke.

Although this is commonly understood, what most have not yet discovered is that if you practice this pinch shot from a bunker, intending to strike the ball BEFORE the sand, you’ll sharpen your consistency for solid contact You will also know immediately if you improperly struck the sand first, as the ball will not likely travel more that a few feet and stay in the bunker.

With spring here and grass growing, after such practice from the sand, you’ll feel like your chip and pitch shots will be on a tee and your solid shot is awaiting you

WARNING: This is not an easy drill! You will hit the sand before the ball often so be mentally prepared for many failed shots Herein lies the training for that elusive emotional skill, “Patience ”

For the competitive golfer that enjoys competing against members of other clubs in the area, Carolina Trace is sponsoring three (3) Carolina Golf Association teams this year: Men's (18+), Senior (55+), and Super Senior (65+). We are forming these teams and scheduling each division Men's Golf Association, Women's Golf Association, Ladies Nine Holers, and Ladies' Beginner Golf have started their season and are looking for new members Contact myself if you are interested in joining any of our golf clubs or associations
