EVENTUR Eventur - The app that combines Events & Adventure. Concept - Design an app that allows the user to connect with people that have similar interest as them. Personal Connection - My idea for this app came from a fear of meeting new people. I have always struggled to meet people, a fear of crowded spaces has also made that impossible. This project became an outlet for that problem. Here’s my design solution.

DS Automobiles - While I was at Acuity, I worked on many projects but my favourite was DS Automobiles. I also worked on the Citroën Direct Mail for Mother’s Day as well as the DS Direct Mail. My job was to create content on an existing template. DS has very strict brand guidelines, they only use certain colours, typefaces, opacity etc. And they are also very minimalistic which is one of my favourite areas of design. Working to their brand guidelines was quite easy for me. The challenge I had when creating content was image sourcing for the DS Webstore. Most of the products are quite masculine, my solution to that is gender equality. Marketing products towards both genders will open up the market. Obviously this is yet to be welcomed in the “Real” world. I welcome that day in design.
DS AUTOMOBILES It was refreshing to work alongside a web developer whilst designing for web. I picked up some key knowledge that will help me in my future projects. The project also gave me experience in designing for online purposes as I know that online and offline have completely different rules.

Rose Mask - Macro shot of a decaying rose bud. In Photoshop I experimented with saturation and chose a deep red colour palette to work with. It was a case of trial and error until I got something that I liked as a whole. Rock Pond - Black & White Macro shot of a rock near a pond. Unedited. Now part of a personal photo collection for a client. Abstract flower - Macro shot of a Daffodil in bloom. In Photoshop I made the background black and saturated the image to create a white flower effect. This is also part of a personal photo collection for a client.
PHOTOGRAPHY Brighton Wave - Originally a wide angle shot of Brighton Beach. I entered a photography competition called “Reflections� which was run by Printed. com. I was shortlisted and won some free printing for this photograph. Unedited. Autumn Trees - Unedited photograph of a group of trees on The Racecourse in Northampton. The area was opposite the University I attended for a year and was always a welcome escape for me if things got too hectic. I could go and find the simplicity and beauty there.
3D Design - This design was created for the sole purpose of learning new tools in Illustrator. I was a bit rusty after graduating and I also wanted to expand on my knowledge of Illustrator. Typography has always been one of my main strengths. I created this piece using the 3D effect tools in Illustrator to make a flat piece of design slightly more edgy. Stay Gold/The Outsiders - The Stay gold design was designed for the annual Penguin Design Awards, it was a highly regarded university project that I was also graded on. The book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton was one of the books put forward by Penguin. I read the blurb and saw a design in my head straight away. I knew it would be a flat design as I’m not overly fond on gradients and over the top details. My motto has always been Less is More and those are the guidelines I stick to in my design.
LAYOUT TUI Design Task - This task was part of a stage in my job interview at the TUI Travel Group. They asked me to design a double page spread on holidays to Cuba. I had to attract a wide audience and design the layout so that there wasn’t too much “Fluff” and got the reader excited. The Poet Tree Alliance - My objective was to design a simple flyer for The Poet Tree Alliance’s August Exhibitions. I used one of my photographs of the trees on The Racecouse for the background, which the client loved. I really enjoyed this design as I felt I was giving something back to the creative community. The Big Issue - A hard-hitting poster that I designed in the early years of my degree, It was a tough one as the charity itself is really close to my heart. I feel that the design speaks for itself.

Profits from the sales of our magazine go towards helping homeless people help themselves. During the winter the numbers of British homeless people sleeping rough ,outside in the elements, rose to levels not seen since the 1980s. Hypothermia is a dangerously low body temperature. Warning signs are confusion, slurred speech, drowsiness and memory loss. Two successive severe winters combined with unprecedented economic strife means our business has never been more relevant to the well being of homeless people.
RETHINK Rethink - Another cause that is close to my heart is Mental Health. There was a lot of stigma in the press while I was working on this project and it was hard to deal with the critism of my fellow peers at unveristy. I had to show them how to “RETHINK” and help them understand that an illness doesn’t always have to be a physical one. At the time of this project I was also dealing with increased anxiety about my course and general life, I feel that even though I was having a bad time, I somehow let my designs speak out for me. The design was a simplified underground tube map in the shape of a brain. I also used Screen Printing as another method to create my design.
DESIGN METHODOLOGIES The method behind my design process was to start off with a complicated idea and pick my way through it to unleash the true design.
LONDON UNDERGROUND My first thought was, “What is the most complicated design I can find and how can I use that to show the effects of Anxiety on a person’s mind.

I got to the stage of the design where I was about to add the phrases and realised that is was getting complicated. If I couldn’t understand it, How would the target audience understand my design.
THE OUTCOME Carrying on from the same concept, I produced a much more simple design, with the tube map actually forming the outline of a brain. This design was also used as a Screen Print in my development.
