Independent The independence movement started on early 18th century, after the Catalan institutions and language were abolished by Phillip V on the Nueva Planta decrees, after the Spanish Succession War. Catalan separatism is becoming very important nowadays. The Estelada flag is the symbol of the independence, and the Catalan Way towards the Independence was celebrated on 2013.
Sunny Catalonia has a Mediterranean climate, and so, it’s a warm place all the year, except for the north, close to the Pyrenees. Although it hardly ever snows on the coast, there are irregular rains in autumn. On the interior, there is still a regular temperature and weather, but not as stable as on the coast. The north has a cold weather all the year, and rains and/or snows more often.
Barcelona It’s the capital city of Catalonia, the second largest city in Spain and the sixth most populous urban area of the EU. It was founded on the 7th century bC. It has a population of 1.620.000 inhabitants. It’s a very big city, and has very important and beautiful buildings, such as Sagrada Familia, Parc Güell, Casa Batlló or Palau de la Música. Pà amb tomàquet It is a typical recipe of the Catalan and Balearic cuisine. It is one of the most famous dishes of the Catalan cuisine. It used to be a farmer meal on the 16th century, and it is usually eaten with sausages, fuet, ham, cheese, anchovies or other fishes. It consist on a slice of bread (usually “pa de pagès”, toasted or not) and then the tomato juice is spread on the slice directly from half a tomato.
