ES CU ELA
Dear newest Escuela readers,
Everyday it wil rain, rain, rain raaaaaii n.
Yes, Bruno Mars nailed this song. This season, it is inevitable to not see raindrops falling on our roofs. That swishing wind, creating a very cool breeze that kisses our cheeks makes us feel not gloomy (no), but hopeful about the next day’s class suspension. Having rainy days in the Philippines is not an unusual thing anymore—we live with it. This debut issue of Escuela magazine delves on the concept of rain, typhoon and coping—involving the most affected, as they say—the students. In social media, I can see every complaint, wish and state they are on even without asking. In the news, being stuck in traffic or stranded is often talked about, students are like the target of suffering. Even so, as Filipinos, we tend to insert a happiness feel in our going-home or goingto-school journey. Yes, we get stressed, but all the more, we get more determined. This magazine features all you want to know about life during rainy days--secret pegs, stories and more. I hope you enjoy our first issue, and cheers to more Escuela days to come. OOTDs out of the ordinary rainy fash Rainy days seem to scare us with thick jackets, off-coloured sweaters or uncomfortable tight pants. But see how we turn these mad rainy day outfits to comfy manageable dailies.
Not sweaters, not even thick sticky-feeling jackets but polos can make your neutral-colored dress fashionable. Polos are not so thick, plus, it can be your savior when your skirt tries to fly away (tie your polo on your waist, just like highschool but yes, it works) 20 | escuela
No shorts during rainy days? We say no. Shorts tied up with stripy long sleeves will have you comfortably walk in unexpected floods. Well, be sure to have your slippers around to save your shoes’ day!

Rainy Day Reads by Audree Del Rosario
Just because it’s already October does not mean that typhoon season is over. In fact, it is far from over. There are still a few storms just around the corner and we definitely can expect some more class suspensions. So what can you do when those oh so gloomy days off school happens? Well, aside from surfing the net all day and posting selfies, statuses and tweets online, you can read a book, of course! In this month’s book section, Escuela presents to you young adult novels that are perfect for rainy day reading and if you’re not much of a reader, then maybe you can watch the film adaptations of The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Fault in Our Stars.

How to Survive College Hell Week by Celina De Chavez
College—not as easy as High School, not your typical chill school time. It’s the stage where you must, as much as possible, aim high to have a better career in the future. It’s where you must not expect merciful professors, and it’s where you can’t rely to anyone but yourself. But how do you maintain your health or your academic reputation? Here’s five tips to help you with keeping yourself well- rounded especially during hell weeks.
1. Make sure that you had enough sleep It doesn’t matter how long you have studied for the exam or how long you manage to write your paper, as long as you make sure you have your brain ready for all heavy texts and readings. Believe me, you would not be able to digest everything if you haven’t had enough sleep. Quality over quantity.
2. Know your study style! If you’re stressed too much with lots of texts, you’ll know. If you don’t want charts and mere paragraphs will enable you to remember more, you’ll also know. Whatever makes you comfortable, choose it. Cater your preference because the more you make yourself deal with whatever’s given to you the hard way, you’ll tire and easily give up on it.
3. Take a break If you feel tired, take a break—eat, sleep, listen to music, calm yourself. But remember, a SHORT break enough to keep you alive. You’re in college to study, not to chill and sleep all the time.
4. Ask upperclassmen for help You would surely ace the exam if you’re that eager to memorize the whole book and and engross yourself in studying. Not all of us have that keen courage. So, it’s good to have friends from upperclassmen in your course, so you could ask really helpful tips to survive subjects. As parents always say, nothing or no one can deceive the experienced.
5. Work out your attitude You won’t succeed in studying or conquering the hell week if firstly, you don’t have the motivation or the right optimism to finish your work. If you just become frustrated everytime, better accept failure. Yet, if you hold your head up high and try your best, expect better results.

10 Things to Do When.. by Ericka Jusayan
This month, we welcome the rainiest month of the rainy season. We college students may be the last ones to get our classes suspended, but hey, we ain’t waterproof. Have you ever experienced cramming your requirements at 11:00 in the evening, and suddenly, you hear thunder and that glorious sound of rain falling on your roof? With so much hope, you check your Twitter timeline and you see tweets about suspension and the hashtag, #WalangPasok. After a few hours, schools and Local Government Units start suspending and you patiently (or impatiently) wait for your school to suspend too. When you finally get the announcement you’ve been waiting for, it feels as if you courted a girl for 13 months and she said yes! So, you leave those papers on your desk and sleep, as they say, “We take the naps we think we deserve.” Now, what’s next? Here are Escuela’s 10 Things to Do When Classes are Suspended

Nakakaloka!

For 2 years in FEU Manila, the most embarrassing moment that happened to me is when i fell down from the stairs. instead of taking an elevator to go down my friend and i used the stairs. Gosh! Sobrang nakakahiya kasi medyo madaming tao nun. Hindi ako makaiyak kasi nakakahiya talaga yung nangyari. Kaya idinaan ko na lang sa tawa.
