Case Study – newfutures Cornwall – back to being a top seller Max started with new futures in Cornwall after serving a prison sentence and being released on licence. He had a good work ethic having always maintained employment within the sales industry, predominantly within motor vehicle sales, but due to the nature of his offence he was struggling with disclosure and his motivation had become very low due to the number of rejections he was receiving from employers. Max’s main aim was to be able to secure employment and working closely with his new futures case manager they identified goals together. Max was given advice on how to disclose his offence and produced a disclosure letter to help him with this. He attended sessions with a National Careers Service adviser and was referred to the Money Advice Service in Cornwall to help with budgeting and debts. The new futures case manager then referred Max to an Employability and IT course with a local provider in Cornwall. This course really helped to improve his motivation as the trainer worked closely with him without making a judgement, meaning Max gained useful skills in IT. Again working with his case manager, Max produced a CV and carried out job search which resulted in him being invited to several interviews. As a result of the support from new futures, Max has overcome a major hurdle in his life and has now got permanent employment with a local retail chain in Cornwall. Max’s confidence and motivation has been improved even more as his employer has invested further in him by sending him on training events outside the area to gain more new skills and help develop him within the company. Comment from his offender manager: ‘He is still enjoying his job and has been the top seller, which he will receive commission for, which has helped to improve his financial situation greatly as he now as a regular wage’
