Prior to being imprisoned for fraud, Carole had worked in the customer service industry. She hoped to find work on release as she wanted to help support her children as they grew up. Due to the nature of her offence, she would need to find a new career direction and build trust with an employer if she was going to progress. Carole’s confidence and self esteem were very low, so she needed additional support in order to move forward. Carole was referred to new futures as part of a new referral process with staff in HMP Eastwood Park set up by the new futures Partnership Manager for Cornwall. This ensures that women resettling in Cornwall are identified in a timely way and offered support on release. With this in place, there was an immediate link with the new futures offer in Cornwall and, with Carole’s on-going involvement, a plan was jointly developed and agreed with the Offender Manager to help get Carole back on track when released. Carole agreed that her new CV could be circulated to potential employers in Cornwall as well as confirming that she was happy for the new futures Partnership Manager to disclose risk information if requested. After further discussion with Carole to confirm her interests and aims, the Partnership Manager engaged with a high-profile restaurant and secured an agreement for Carole to have a work trial once she is released. There is hope that this could lead to a longer-term work experience placement. Carole is now excited and motivated at the prospect of going straight into work after serving her sentence. The Partnership Manager continues to liaise between the employer and Carole to keep them both updated. Carole now has an opportunity waiting for her which will help her to develop her work confidence, extend her skills and allow her to reintegrate into the workplace, all of which will improve her future employability prospects. new futures will continue to support Carole during this process and ensure that she has the help needed to succeed.
