THE SCRAP CAR INDUSTRY, and how we’re doing our bit to recycle used cars.

Cash 4 Cars Company is part of a large industry that handles thousands of end of life scrap cars each year. It is an industry that is set for growth, Thanks to the ageing stock of vehicles on and off the New Zealand Roads.

Roughly 30% of New Zealand’s vehicles are 20 years or older, The aftermath of a used car bubble in the mid to late 90’s.

From March 2017 to March 2018 alone, 158,000 cars reached the end of the road nationwide and this is set to only rise. Vehicles that have been written off by insurance companies go through auction houses such as Turners Auctions which have facilities throughout New Zealand. Cash 4 Cars Company customers are made up of local businesses and community members who are looking for a quick, hassle free sale of their unwanted car. What happens to your scrap car?

Car dismantlers take the majority of end of life vehicles, they strip them for all useable and recyclable parts then send the remaining car body to the metal smelters. A large amount of reclaimed metal is exported to manufacturing countries like China and Indonesia.

New Zealand is home to hundreds of Car Dismantlers who can process thousands of broken cars a year. Everything from doors to engine mounts to be kept and sold, some wreckers export auto parts to countries as far as Dubai, Malaysia and Japan. The bulk of auto parts however are sold to local customers, including Mechanics, Panel beaters and DIYers.

Before the car is dismantled their fuel tanks are drained along with other fluids and coolants. Vehicles are then sent to have their valuable parts removed, everything

gets re-used, sometimes more than once. Rubber is recycled, Glass can end up in concrete, Seat foam can become carpet underlay and copper wire to be melted down and reused. The materials reclaimed can turn up again in many forms from toasters to power extension leads.

Some of the 150,000 plus cars coming off New Zealand’s roads are dormant, this means the owner has not relicensed the vehicle for over 12 months and they are automatically deregistered by the New Zealand Transport agency. Some are left to rust away on farms and rural blocks while others are dumped in back yards, but this is a minority, in an industry that effectively deals with one of New Zealand’s least-talked about waste disposal industries.

Cash 4 Car Company’s mission is to help everyday people dispose of their unwanted scrap car in a safe and environmentally friendly way while getting the best price possible.

CHILDREN LEARN YOUNG AT TOP INDIAN RESTAURANT IN HENDERSON

sport in New Zealand, golf is the most popular participation sport, with more golf courses in New Zealand per capita of population, than any other country in the world.

Lily, 106 years old

ADVICE FROM CENTENARIANS ON HOW TO LIVE LONGER AND BETTER Lili is 106. Married once, two children, four grandchildren. Lili’s best live-long advice: “Do something interesting every day; otherwise you disintegrate. Something that makes you happy and get you excited. Even best if it get your adrenalin going.”

The owners of Indian Flavours restaurant in downtown Henderson are committed to teaching their children how to run the restaurant as a very young age. But Aaditya (11) and Aaniya (10) love it!

They come in after school each day and have been trained by Mum and Dad how to take phone orders for takeaways, work the eftpos machine, and relate to customers in a friendly but professional way. They are taught how to smile, lay tables, clean table, and a whole range of service skills. Says Dad and head chef Manu “In India we like our whole family to be involved in the family business. This leads to a feeling of unity and oneness. It makes our family very tight and close. Plus, when family members are employees, they can be completely trusted. I am not worried about money being stolen or anything like that. My kids (Manu is laughing now) are also bi-lingual and don’t have the strong Indian accent and head wobble that me and my wife have, so they are better at relating with English speaking customers than we are! My kids are my own live in translation team! I also like them coming into the restaurant to work straight after school so that they are not at home alone. We insist that they do their homework first before starting work in the restaurant.

I don’t pay them as such, but instead I buy them things that they say they want. (smiling widely) I often tell them that by working in the restaurant they are working for themselves because this is their inheritance when their Mum and Dad die!” Even at 10 and 11, they “get it “so they work with smile!

TRICKY SALE! Success Story!

5/48 McCleod Road My daughter owned a property in Te Atatu which was very run down and in need of a complete restoration. There were several complications w ith the sale of this property including working w ith finance companies, lawyers, banks, and the Companies office.

I have dealt w ith a lot of real estate agents in the past but Julian is by far the most professional and skillful we’ve met. We really needed him for this sale as it was not a simple real estate transaction. He navigated us through the very tricky sales process and kept us fully informed at every stage.

We ended up getting a better sales price than we’d expected which was really a bonus. So if you have CCC issues, compliance issues, or tricky stuff to deal w ith, I thoroughly recommend using Julian. He’ll navigate you through to a successful ending, just as he did for us. Dr Paul Moon, Professor Of History, AUT.
