SIGNS of the TIMES and being READY: A collection of end time scriptures taken from the four gospels with cross references verses and commentaries.
MT.16:2-3 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, it will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? Lk. 12:54-56 He said to the crowd: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, `It’s going to rain,’ and it does. And when the south wind blows, you say, `It’s going to be hot,’ and it is. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time? Lk. 21:29-31 He told them this parable: “Look at the fig-tree and all the trees. When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near. You don't have to be a prophet to realize that mankind today is hell-bent on a crash course to catastrophe and that the end of his foolish, wasteful, wanton, destructive rule on Earth is at hand! Just take a good look around you and read the newspapers, watch the news on television or on the internet and you'll see that it's evident that today's pressing military, political, economic and environmental crises cannot go on "business as usual" for much longer!
Lk. 21:7-11 “Teacher,” they asked, “when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?” He replied: “Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, `I am he,’ and `The time is near.’ Do not follow them. When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.” Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. Lk. 17:26-30 “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. “It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulphur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. “It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. Lk. 21:24-28 “…There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” (Matthew chapter 24 and Mark chapter 13)
According to Bible prophecy, countless "signs of the times" pointing to the final apocalyptic "Time of the End" have already been fulfilled, thus we are now living in the Last Days of Man's
inhumane kingdoms on Earth! But most people never seem to sense impending doom or things that are about to happen until it's too late.--They just don't seem to be aware of the situation. It reminds me of what Jesus said to the Scribes and Pharisees: "Ye can discern the face of the sky, but can ye not discern the signs of the times?" (Mt.16:3) Even a lot of Christians seem to be knowledgeable on almost every other subject, but the really important events that are happening and the major things that are changing, they just don't seem to understand! Unwittingly, they themselves are a fulfilment of another End time prophecy: "Knowing this first, that there shall come in the Last Days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, where is the promise of His Coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the Creation." (2Pe.3:3, 4)--In other words, "Everything's the same! There's no danger! Business as usual!" Just like Jesus said about the days of Noah, "They built and they planted and they married and were given in marriage, and knew not until the flood came and swept them all away! So shall also the coming of the Son of man be." (Mt.24:37-39) Noah preached to those unbelieving people of that horrible wicked world for 120 years before the flood, and they never repented! They were probably waiting to see if it was really going to rain, if it was really going to happen, then maybe they'd climb on board with him. In the meantime, they just laughed, sneered, jeered and persecuted him and his sons as they worked on that ship for 120 years! Then Noah and his family finally went in, and it says that God shut the door (Gen.7:16) so that nobody else could enter. And by the time it started to rain and began to flood, it was too late for that generation who were left behind to drown in the flood of their own iniquity!
Most people today are just going on, business as usual! "Oh, they've been preaching this business about Jesus coming for centuries and He hasn't come yet!" Well, He is coming and very soon, and you'd better be prepared by having Him in your heart and believing in Him, or you're apt to be swept away with the rest of the scoffers and procrastinators in the horrible flood of the judgements of God that are going to be poured out after Jesus returns! Lk. 12:35-46 “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. The Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. But suppose the servant says to himself, `My master is taking a long time in coming,’ and he then begins to beat the menservants and maidservants and to eat and drink and get drunk. The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.
Lk. 21:33-36 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap. For it will come upon all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man. "But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that Day (of Christ's second coming) should overtake you as a thief!" (1Th.5:4.) You Christians who know His Word and have "discerned the signs of the times" (Mt.16:3) are not going to be surprised! You don't have to have that day surprise you! You're going to be so aware of what's going on that you're going to know that His coming is very near. You may not know the precise day or hour, but you will know when approximately 3-1/2 years from the placing of the Abomination of Desolation has passed! And you'll be looking for and anxiously awaiting Jesus' return! MAT.24:15 "Therefore when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand) (Dan.7:25, Rev.11:3; 13:5) "Ye are all the children of light and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness! Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of Salvation." (1Th.5:5-8.) Jesus' magnificent Second Coming won't catch you by surprise, like a thief in the night, as it will the rest of the world! They won't be expecting it! You're supposed to know what's happening and when they're going to happen! God's children are not supposed to be in the dark about all these Bible prophecies! If you know His Word, you won't be surprised
MAT.26:63-64 But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, "I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!" Jesus said to him, "It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven." MAR. 14:62 Jesus said, "I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven." LU. 22:69 Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God. Revelation 1:7Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. Hebrews 12:2 Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. You'll see the whole sky light up with permanent lightning from one end to the other, and then Jesus is going to appear in the clouds of Heaven in power and great glory! The whole World's going to know something very unusual and very apocalyptic is happening!--And it's going to be the Apocalypse for sure!--The revelation of Jesus Christ Himself coming in the clouds! The world has experienced these sorrows of wars, famines, plagues, and earthquakes for millennia. The apostle Paul noted: “For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now (Romans 8:22). But labor
only goes on for a limited amount of time. The birth of the “baby,” which in this case is Jesus’ return and the end of this age, is not going to wait forever. Are we now living in that time of birth pangs? It is interesting to note that all of the things that Jesus said would occur in it are happening today. The pangs are here now, and they're getting harder and closer together, and the time of the birth of the End is nearly here! The Lord is careful to warn us to observe the signs of the times, to see the pattern of sin working itself out and to watch and pray. Jn. 14:1-4 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thank God, Jesus is coming soon and will tell us: “Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” This is not a complete study as it is a vast subject that would take books in order to get all the details.
