Southern Nevada is incredibly proud of its Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities, especially in my district, which has one of the highest AANHPI populations in the country. With a wide variety of shows and programs produced right here in Las Vegas, Vegas+ is an independent and locally focused source of entertainment and news for thousands of southern Nevada families. What inspired you to create Vegas+, and what gap in the streaming market were you aiming to fill?

Founding Vision: Most everything in Las Vegas is produced elsewhere and sold here. Major conventions like Magic, CES, and the NAB bring millions of people into Las Vegas, yet products, services, and even destinations feature everything and everywhere except Las Vegas. In broadcast and streaming platforms, there’s no “home” for independent, unaffiliated networks. YouTube TV, Netflix, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, Hulu, Disney, etc., are based outside Vegas, and they carry content mostly produced by major networks and their affiliate networks.

On February 26, 2020, partners Carl Magno and Guy Rendon made a decision to create a Digital Asset bank for the thousands of hours of broadcast content produced by each or both of them, prior to and after the formation of VAsian Productions in 2007, which became VAsian Group Corporation, then devolved into VAsian Television, Inc Asian Network LLC was officially registered with the State of Nevada.

On March 4, 2020, the headquarters in Clark County were established and Asian Network officially registered its Doing Business As (DBA) name: Vegas+ (vegasplus.us), making it the very first Broadcast and Streaming Platform for Independent Networks in the Entertainment Capital of the World - Las Vegas!

On March 5, 2020, the pandemic officially hit the Entertainment Capital of the World!

Reflecting on the past year, what key milestones has Vegas+ achieved?

Building the platform is a slow, expensive, and painstaking process, especially when you’re self-funding the proof of process and income stages. The fact that we’re able to put together under one roof 6 Linear (24/7 feeds) and Video-on-Demand (VOD) channels in 2023 is unimaginable. On our 4th-year anniversary, we’re blessed to launch our very first subscription channel not only for VOD but also for live stream programs.

We’ve also partnered with AmplePoints universal rewards platform to help acquire subscribers. What were some of the challenges encountered during the first year, and how did the team overcome them?

Challenges and Learnings: It’s always best to pray about the new business venture and secure all of your resources human and financial, primarily, and the best technology providers, to ensure the success of the new venture. As most people know, we only have a handful of dedicated people who are experts and experienced in their respective fields investing time, effort, and money into Vegas+ simply because they believe in the cause. Our biggest challenges are the lack of financial resources and our proximity to our technology providers, mostly based in the Philippines By the grace of God and the dedication of the people supporting us, we are able to consistently grow by reinvesting our internally-generated funds

Can you discuss the strategy behind the content selection and creation for Vegas+?

How has Vegas+ engaged with its audience and the community over the past year?

Community Engagement: Inasmuch as our Independent Networks deal directly with their niche community, we encourage them to use our studio and events center for special events so we can showcase our technological capabilities, especially ease of use FilAmTV Network is the most active in meeting its viewer base and supporters, consisting of Filipino-Americans and Filipinos in America, at +63FIFTY, which is owned and operated by Vegas+ The Tevakanui Polynesian Dance School has regular students learning Polynesian Dance at +63FIFTY four days a week, reaching out to the Pacific Islander Community. We have done the same for Latino-Americans through SOMOS LATINOS NETWORK. We will be urging the rest of our Independent Networks to actively reach out to their niche markets via community-based events at +63FIFTY powered by Vegas+.

I have been in the content business for 38 years, from producing TV shows and commercials appearing on three of the biggest networks in the Philippines, to launching linear channels there including LAKBAY TV, ISLA THE ADVOCACY CHANNEL, JUICE TV, and finally, LIVING ASIA CHANNEL in the Philippines to VASIANTV, ACTV, LACHTV, SOMOS LATINOS, and finally PACIFIC ISLAND NETWORK - all in Las Vegas - that’s why we named the platform VEGAS+.

And that’s why I personally believe that CONTENT is KING! There are strict guidelines in creating content - it all must be family-oriented, wholesome, with no cussing, no promotion of vices, no sex, and violence - all G-rated We even have to mute cuss words in songs before they are aired Since Vegas+ is now a platform rather than a TV Network which produces and aggregates TV shows, we nevertheless choose the networks which adhere to our CONTENT POLICY.

What does the future hold for Vegas+ in terms of expansion, rtnerships, and content offerings?

"I love to read books of the historical fiction genre. I am an irregular golf player because I only play when I get invited as a guest in community golf tournaments," he reveals. "Most of all, I love diving into flea markets and yard sales during weekends I find antique and vintage items appealing, probably because I am an old soul "

"I would say that the biggest hurdle is poverty I was not born to a life of privilege I overcame this with a healthy dose of optimism coupled with hard work and a never-say-die attitude," he reflects.

Born in Northern Luzon to an OFW family, Badajos' upbringing, shaped by the sacrifices and support of his older brothers and a housewife mother, reflects a deep affection for OFWs, drawing from a personal understanding of their struggles and triumphs. "I am the product of an OFW family. Three of my older brothers were among the first to be deployed as OFWs to Saudi Arabia in the early eighties," he shares "They were the ones who supported my education, from high school to college because our father died when I was only in grade school ”

"Since the establishment of the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles in 1947, no one has ever thought, or perhaps attempted, to open an Honorary Consulate in Las Vegas."

Future Aspirations

Post-DFA, Badajos aspires to channel his energy into charitable work, focusing on the rural poor, vulnerable children, and disaster victims a testament to his enduring commitment to service.

"Post-DFA, I will probably go into charitable work through a not-for-profit Foundation that I might put up together with like-minded friends," he shares "I am particularly interested in helping the rural poor, especially the elderly, vulnerable children, and victims of calamities and disasters among them."
