When you see all the requisites to have a local wedding for non-residents in Puerto Rico you might want to think twice. And maybe, you would consider a symbolic wedding instead…

Requisites to marry in Puerto Rico:

Health certificate indicating that you completed all the tests required to marry in the place of residence. If you do not need pre-marriage laboratories, the health professional will indicate this in writing. The medical certificate will be valid for ten (10) calendar days from the date of issue, after that, they will not be able to marry without a new medical certificate.

Affidavit stating the following:

You are not resident of Puerto Rico,

The purpose of visit to Puerto Rico is to get married.

State visit duration and that you will not remain in Puerto Rico after the fact. If the affidavit is drafted in the United States, you must authenticate the signature of the notary public with the County Clerk” of the state (in some states, it corresponds to the Secretary of State).

Valid identification with photo, issued by state government or country of residence. The following are the most accepted forms of identification: Driver’s License, Passport or state identification. They must not be expired or mutilated.

Birth certificates (in original); the names of the parties will be noted as they appear in the document.

If you have a name change, please bring a judgment from the court where the change was warranted. It must be stamped true and exact copy of the original and must be submitted at the time of all documents.

People who had previous marriages, must obtain all divorce sentences, and in case of widowhood, the death certificate of the spouse. (All documents are required in original).

You must buy a $150.00 stamp at a local Tax Collector Office.

Once you have all requirements, you must visit a demographic office to deliver all documents. Helping you with these procedures can be an additional charge of at least $200.00 by the celebrants.
