The central figure in NemO’s work is an old and wrinkled man who is used by the artist to symbolize his vision on humanity, himself, society, corruption and on decadence. With this figure he is sending a message of social criticism and complaint.

NEMO´S The question of Nemo’s identity is been an ongoing theme since the beginning of his artistic career. It is a name with many references: From the captain that went against the stream in the novel ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea’ to the hero of ´Little Nemo in Slumberland´, the first classic comic written by Winsor McCay. But perhaps the most important reference is given by its etymology: Nemo means ‘no one’ in latin. These artworks belong to no one (hence the use of the word as a possesive noun) and in their turn, they belong to everyone. The main character in Nemo’s work is a wrinkled, old man that represents a decaying society. The man, cheerfully consumed by his misery, is no more than an animal below the surface, like the official Dostoievsky, a being mutated in a cow, a transposition, if possible even more monstrous than the beetle of Kafka. With a brutal modernization of the men without identity that wander sweeping through the inhumane cities depicted in the paintings of George Grosz, the decaying cow-figure conquers the city, its walls and abandoned spaces, to create a collective portrait with pessimistic colors. Floating in emptiness, the characters of Nemo´s paintings and his interventions in the city are no more than faithful psychological portraits of humanity and the age we have created together. Because it is not something that “we have lived”, but something we created with our own actions every day. This empty space is no more than a reflexion of silence, of the stillness in which we stay before the surrounding corrosion. It reminds of those verses of Dylan Thomas that say: “And I am dumb to tell the hanging man / How of my clay is made the hangman´s lime.” The contorted mouth showed by several of these “portraits” does not seem to be a cry of despair but a sign of surprise that our clay contributed to the creation of the executioner. The switch from spraypaint to acrylic and brush reflects the willingness of Nemo´s to approach the viewer and to make him into an active agent: from consuming passer-by to conscious citizen and capable of adjusting this reality that consumes him. In this, the creating capacity of the viewer is accentuated with the peeling off of the layers of skin, created with a base of newspapers, that cover the surface. It is no more than a saddistic invitation to develop further and to untie the knot in which one has caught himself. Withouth face or skin, the artwork of no one and of everyone is no more than an invitation to reflect, one that cannot stay just a mere reflection but has to transform into action. It is a call to control the silence of the sea, like captain Nemo would have done.
