Althoughracismhasbeendeclininginthelastcentury,itwillneverdisappear.Unfortunatelyblack menhavebeenportrayedasthugswhocanonlycommitcrimes.About13.2%ofthepopulationis representedbyblackpeople,butAmerica'sprisonsystemismadeupofabout60%black ("UnapologeticallyExposingAmerica'sRacistSystem"RacismInAmericaNp,ndWeb12 Feb.2017).Thishasledtoinstitutionalracism,whichisdifferentfromothertypesofracism becauseitisaspecificgroupnaturallybeingtreatedworsethanothersconsistentlyasaresultof socialnorms.Thesocialdisadvantagesofblackpeoplesuchaswhiteprivilege,whichonlygive benefitstopeopleofwhiteskincolor,ortheeconomicdisadvantages,whereblackpeopleare treatedacertainwayduetoassumptionsaboutmorals,orintegrity,makeotherstreatthemasless thanhuman.Thesestereotypessteeredotherracesinthedirectionofmakingfalseassumptions aboutblacks,thereforeputtingthemindangerofbeingdiscriminatedagainst.
