WE can only dream of what it would be like if England managed to win the Euros but there’s every chance they will. ENGLAND can win the European Championships in France this summer. There, we said it. Yes we say it every couple of years but Roy Hodgson has the players at his disposal to give it a good go. In two of their most recent games England have went and beat the two teams most are tipping to win the tournament - France and Germany. Admittedly, they were only friendlies but they showed their worth in the brilliant 3-2 victory over Germany. Two goals down and looking out of the game, England turned the game on its head with three second half goals to beat their old rivals and send a message out to the rest of Europe ahead of the summer tournament. The English Premier League has had its critics this season with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal struggling to compete at the top, but in a weird way it could work in the favour of the English national team. For far too long, the teams at the top of the league

There’s no pressure on the likes of Alli or Kane in this tournament, they aren’t really expected to win the tournament but the Tottenham and Leicester players in their squad know all about being the underdog. In Alli, they have one of the brightest prospects in world football. If he can hit top form, there’s no doubt that England will go far. England have Wayne Rooney as their big name player, and he’s being written off as past it. But even that is a silly thing to do. He might not have the movement of Vardy, or the goalscoring touch of Kane, but he can still play a vital role for Hodgson’s men. His injury couldn’t have come at a worse time. After a desperately poor 2015, he seemed to have returned to his old self at the beginning of this year. By the end of January he had already hit six goals in a struggling Man Utd side. If you look at England’s front three in the Germany game, there’s no reason why Rooney couldn’t replace the injured Danny Welbeck in that team, with Vardy coming in for Adam Lallana on the other side. It might not offer much defensive protection, but with Dier holding in the middle of the park, and Jordan Henderson doing the donkey work to allow Alli to create, then that front three could be lethal with their mixture of movement, goalscoring and experience. Not to mention Barkley, Wilshere, Chamberlain, and Rashford, all fantastic options for Roy. Rooney has been a major letdown at international tournaments in his career, and this is his final chance to prove his worth in an international tournament. If he’s fit, he’s a hard player to leave out of any team. And before you go writing all of this off, just remember Greece in 2004!

years. I am most fortunate to have a healthy family, although I have undergone Gamma Knife surgery for treatment of an AVM; and Radiofrequency Thermocoagulation for Trigeminal Neuralgia. I have been an open water swimmer for approximately two years, initially using a wet suit in the summer, however within a matter of months I was persuaded to swim in skins. I have been swimming throughout the winter months, and have taken on a number of challenges to include the Parliament Hill Ice Swim Hootenanny, as well as a relay member in a 24 hour swim. I am a member of the Redcaps Swimming

Club, and together with five other club members I am taking on the challenge of swimming the English Channel in a relay team, during the week commencing 11th July 2016, in aid of Little Havens. Balsamic-glazed salmon fillets 1 dessertspoon olive oil 4 cloves garlic, minced 1 tablespoon white wine 1 tablespoon honey 85ml (3 fl oz) balsamic vinegar 2 dessertspoons Dijon mustard salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste 1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano 6 (140g) salmon fillets

Preheat oven to 200 C / Gas mark 6. Line a baking tray with baking parchment.

Heat olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat; add garlic and cook until soft, about 3 minutes. Mix in white wine, honey, balsamic vinegar, mustard, salt and pepper. Simmer, uncovered, for about 3 minutes, or until slightly thickened. Take off the heat and add oregano.

Arrange salmon fillets on prepared baking tray. Brush fillets with balsamic glaze.

Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 14 minutes, or until flesh flakes easily with a fork. Brush fillets with remaining glaze. Use a fish slice to transfer fillets to serving platter, leaving the skin behind on the tray. Try serving these salmon fillets over a baby leaf salad, and use extra glaze for the dressing. Add chopped spring onions and julienned red pepper to round out the salad.

Snoring Stuart BSc(Hons) MSc(Chiro) DC Consultant Osteomyologist www.spinalcarecentre.co.uk Snoring is a common cause of daytime fatigue (for the snorer and their partner). Men are more likely to snore but it is still common amongst women and children. As well as not feeling fully rested during the day, snorers are more likely to be involved in car accidents – a clear indicator that poor quality sleep due to snoring is affecting your concentration and ability to perform. There are several reasons why we might snore. Inflammation of the airways due to a cold, blocked sinuses or an allergic reaction can cause temporary snoring. Structural causes such as neck length, big tonsils and jaw shape may predispose one to snoring too. Being overweight and smoking (as it irritates the airways) greatly increase your chances of being a chronic snorer. I’ve noticed that my patients who come to me for relief from painful stiff necks also complain of snoring or poor quality sleep. Once their pain is relieved and they have regained a fuller, freer range of motion in their neck (instantly improving their posture), these same patients comment that their snoring is also often reduced. If ignored, snoring can develop into the more serious condition of sleep apnoea. Whilst snoring is the vibration of your airways as they are partially obstructed, sleep apnoea is the complete closure of your throat for seconds

at a time whilst you are asleep. As your brain and body is deprived of oxygen your survival system kicks in and wakes you up gasping for air. This can occur many times in a single night (often without you remembering it in the morning) leading to a feeling of grogginess, fatigue and, sometimes, a bad headache upon waking. Apart from making you feel tired all day and with poor concentration and energy levels, sleep apnoea can have serious ramifications for health. It is linked to high blood pressure, increased risk of strokes and heart attacks, impotency, memory problems and chronic headaches. If you feel or are told by your partner that you are regular snorer, ask them to note down the pattern of your snoring, what position you are sleeping in as you snore and if you appear to stop breathing during the night. If you have a cold, hayfever or inflamed sinuses then over the counter nasal strips which hold your nasal passages open may help a temporary bout of snoring. They won’t make any difference to snoring caused by relaxed throat muscles or neck problems. You can greatly reduce your risk of snoring by avoiding alcohol and other central nervous system depressants such as pain killers, muscle relaxants and sedatives. Stopping smoking and losing those extra pounds will also help reduce snoring as well as dramatically improving your overall health levels. Normally I advise patients that the best sleeping position for their spines is on their back, however, for snorers a compromise of sleeping on their side can help stop the throat muscles collapsing during the night and triggering snoring. To help avoid low back problems, place a slim pillow between your knees when you sleep on your side. Don’t try to prop yourself up with lots of pillows as this will only push your chin onto your chest and make snoring more likely. Some people find elevating their bed head slightly with books under the legs can help relieve mild snoring. If you have poor posture or a painful stiff neck then you may find that gentle chiropractic treatment will not only help tackle your neck pain but it could relieve your snoring too. If you feel that you stop breathing for short periods during the night (a common symptom is waking up gasping for breath) then it’s important that you see your GP. They can discuss a range of options with you including devices to hold your jaw in a certain position, sprays, surgery and the use of continuous positive air pressure machines – these blow pressurised air through a face mask to keep the throat open as you sleep.

Gareth Nicholson, Head of Communications at Essex Police, said: “With the huge growth we’ve seen in people using the internet for daily tasks like shopping as well as accessing services from councils to GPs online, it’s obvious that people need to be able to access police services online too. If the crime is happening now or you’re in danger, we still need you to call 999, but reporting a crime or a road traffic collision can now be done more conveniently than ever before. We want people who don’t need us in an emergency to think carefully about how they contact us and whether the information they’re looking for is already online because that gives officers more time to fight crime.”
