A LIFE IN COLOURS

The story of Montana is the story of design centered around people. Over the years, we have created and adopted products with aesthetic links to the past and views to the future. Verner Panton was one of the most colourful, innovative and inspirational Danish architects of the 20th century. Verner Panton was also a life-long friend of Peter J. Lassen, founder of Montana, and today the iconic works the Panton One and Panton Bachelor chairs, the Panton Wire and Panton Table are all manufactured by Montana.

Verner Panton was one of the most colourful designers of the 20th century and a source of inspiration for architects and designers in the field of textiles, furniture and interior design.

The history … When Peter J. Lassen, the founder of Montana, first met the young Danish architect Verner Panton in 1956, neither of them was aware that this would be the beginning of a close friendship and life-long collaboration. They soon started working together. Their friendship grew and even came to involve their families, including going on holidays together, and making frequent travels between Copenhagen and Basel, where Verner Panton and his wife Marianne lived. The collaboration became so close that they had almost daily contact. Between them arose a constant dialogue about design in which their shared world of ideas was surrounded by great mutual respect. Peter representing knowledge about production technology, marke tingand sales, and Verner being the creative developerbehind ideas, that he would later gain acknowledgement for all over the world. Their worlds fused, so to speak, at several levels, often making it difficult to tell what was work and what was friendship. The result was a large number of interesting and innovative pieces of furniture designed by Verner Panton. They were brought to life through a passion for design with form, creativityand functionality as the driving forces - not to mention an approach to colours, which was unique at the time: Panton’s use of colours has been a great source of inspiration to Montana’s colour universe.

Verner Panton’s way of thinking was different to that of most of his contemporary designers, as he used humour as an important source of inspiration. When he laid his hands on a new material, he would surely create new shapes and utility. Verner Panton´s blood ran thick with colours and his language of shapes appealed to all ages. He was said to be decades ahead of his time, as most of his designs could just as well have been drawn today. The strong bond and shared history between Verner Panton and Peter J. Lassen has made it a natural choice for Montana to manufacture several of Verner Panton´s designs. Please enjoy the results of this unique collaboration.

Panton One The first Panton One chair saw the light of day back in 1955. This was the first chair by Verner Panton, originally called the Tivoli chair as it had been designed for a restaurant in Tivoli Gardens. Since then, the series has been expanded to include a kitchen, a bar, and a lounge chair. Panton One chairs come in a range of vibrant colours. As Panton once said, “You sit more comfortably on colours you like …”

THE PANTON ONE CHAIR IS BOTH PLAYFUL, ELEGANT AND SPEAKS ITS OWN UNDERSTATED DESIGN LANGUAGE.

THE PANTON ONE CHAIRS FOR KITCHEN, BAR, LOUNGE AND DINING ARE ALL AVAILABLE IN BOTH MONOCHROME AND VIBRANT COLOUR COMBINATIONS.

WITH ITS BEAUTIFULLY LIGHT WOVEN STRINGS, THE ICONIC PANTON ONE CHAIR FITS EVERY ARCHITECTURAL STYLE.

USE THE LIGHT CHAIR IN STAINLESS STEEL INDOORS AS WELL AS OUT.

Panton Wire With its simple shape and tight construction, this is a typical example of Verner Panton’s working method, with design and logic going hand in hand. The industrial expression of Panton Wire and its flexible construction means that it can be used anywhere.

RAW AND SIMPLE. USE PANTON WIRE TO STORE YOUR FAVOURITE BOOKS, AS A DECORATIVE WALL OBJECT OR AS AN AIRY ROOM DIVIDER.

Panton Table The perfect coffee table, side table and dining table. The sculptural Panton Table, with its lightly trumpet-shaped base and a top that visually seems to almost float in space, is a strong design that will complement any part of the home.

“Ever since my childhood Verner’s universe has been an incredible source of inspiration to me. Everyone who met Verner experienced an entirely new world opening up to them.” Joakim Lassen

PANTON TABLE IS AN INVITATION TO PLAY, TO TALK, TO MEET ...

Panton Bachelor As the name suggests, Panton’s Bachelor is a tribute to bachelor life and the result of the designer’s early experimentation with steel tubing. With its simple steel frame, based on the flat-pack principle, as well as minimal use of materials, this chair is as elegant and contemporary today as when it was first produced in 1955. The chair is accompanied by a footstool and a table in the same series.

THE BACHELOR CHAIR WAS ONE OF VERNER PANTON’S EARLIEST EXPERIMENTATIONS WITH TUBULAR STEEL – A GREAT CONTRAST TO THE SOFT TEXTILE SEAT.
