Message from CHRIS LEWGOOD

Estevan Bruins Head Coach / General Manager Welcome to the 2017 Estevan Bruins Celebrity Dinner and Auction. This event is the cornerstone of the Bruins yearly fundraising efforts. Tonight’s dinner is sure to be one of the best ever for the Bruins. We couldn’t be more excited to have our special guest speaker Brett Wilson in attendance this evening. Mr. Wilson is the perfect example of what hard work and ingenuity can accomplish and is an excellent ambassador of our province on the world stage. As always it is a pleasure to have Rod Pedersen emcee our event. To me Rod is “The Voice” of Saskatchewan sports fans. I would like thank all of the volunteers who have worked to make tonight’s fundraiser a success. It takes countless hours and ideas to make this event come together. Finally, to the corporate community who, without fail, stands by all community groups in Saskatchewan’s Southeast. The Bruins wouldn’t exist without your ongoing support and we would like to thank you for all that you do for the organization.

JAYDEN DUDAS

Boston Pizza Estevan and District Male Athlete of the Year Award Jayden Dudas enjoyed a tremendous year on the golf course to win the Boston Pizza Estevan and District Male Athlete of the Year Award. Jayden is a Grade 9 student at the Estevan Comprehensive School who found success on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour in the bantam division. Jayden competed in five tournaments on the junior tour this year, and finished with one first place finish and four second place finishes. Among the highlights was a tournament win at the Willows Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon with a two-round total of 145, thanks to scores of 72 in the first round and 73 in the second round. And one of his second place finishes was at home at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club, as he finished with a two-round total of 150 (78 and 72). By placing no worse than second in any tournament, Jayden accumulated a total score of 1,437.5 points in the provincial Order of Merit standings, which put him in first place in Saskatchewan, and fifth overall for the country. His average number of strokes was 75.40 per round. Thanks to his points for the year, he was invited to play in the Maple Leaf Junior Tour national championship at the Legacy Golf Club in Phoenix from Nov. 11 to 13. He won the bantam division with scores of 71, 71 and 75 and a total of 217, and was named the national player of the year for the Maple Leaf Junior Tour. Jayden also competed at the national drive, chip and putt contest at the famed Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario, where he finished fourth. His success extended to the high school level, as he helped the ECS male golf team win gold at provincials, and he won the individual bronze medal.

Kourtney Kobitz is a Grade 12 student athlete at the Estevan Comprehensive School. While she has been a star on the basketball court, her passion has led to success in other sports. She received the most sportsmanlike award and the Pride, Hustle and Desire Award on her junior girls’ volleyball team in Grade 9, and was picked as the most improved player on the senior volleyball team in Grade 11. In her first year of track and field in Grade 11, she advanced to provincials in high jump. As for basketball, Kourtney played on the senior girls’ team since Grade 9 and became a starter in Grade 10. This year, Kourtney was the captain of the team, and led them to their third straight title at the McLeod Series. Kourtney was awarded the MVP award at the Michael A. Riffle tournament in December. She helped the team finish second at regionals and advance to the provincial Hoopla 5A provincial tournament for the first time since 2005. After provincials, Kourtney was nominated and selected to play in the Daytona Homes all-star game between the top players from northern and southern Saskatchewan. In the community, Kourtney played club volleyball for four years and club basketball for five. She participated in the Estevan Student Basketball Association (ESBA) for a decade. In addition to her athletic pursuits, Kourtney juggles a job as a lifeguard-water safety instructor at the RM of Estevan Aquatic Centre with various other interests. BLAKE JAMIESON Estevan Kinsmen Club Volunteer Coach of the Year Award The 2017 Estevan Kinsmen Club Volunteer Coach of the Year dedicated many hours to help the Estevan Apex midget AA Bruins enjoy success on the ice. Blake Jamieson has been a coach for the midget AA Bruins for several seasons, serving first as an assistant and then as the head coach. The 2016-17 season was not only his most successful as coach of the midget AA Bruins, but it was also very enjoyable and memorable for the players. Blake has shown dedication to his team by attending every single practice and game, and making the team his number one priority. He has also fostered a great working relationship with the players. He is seen as much as a friend as a coach at practices and games, while still being able to earn the players' respect and attention while speaking, teaching

and coaching. While Blake knows he has to hold the team accountable when they didn't give the effort that was required to win games, Blake makes sure that no practice goes by without joking around with the players before practice or afterwards. Everyone on the team admired Blake not only as a coach, but as a friend like any other on the team. During the past season, the midget AA Bruins won the “A” final in the Kelly Dmyterko Memorial Tournament in Prince Albert, took top spot in the South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League’s midget AA division, and competed in the SSMHL final series against the Notre Dame Hounds. Blake made all of this possible even though the players he had this year made up the youngest and smallest team he'd ever coached.

Bruin Season Recap The Estevan Bruins enjoyed one of their most successful seasons in more than a decade in 2016-17. The Bruins finished the season with a 37-18-3-0 record, which marked their highest win total since the 1998-99 season – the year they won their last Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League title. They also won their first division title since 2007, and advanced to the SJHL semifinal for the first time since 2005. The start of the season seemed to set the tone for the club, as they raced out to a 5-1-1 record. They won seven straight games in late October and early November to push their record to 15-3-1. The seven-game win streak included a sweep of a three-game northern road trip, their first sweep of a northern jaunt in three years. They swept another three-game northern road trip in November, highlighted by an 8-6 win over the Battlefords North Stars. Not only did the Bruins rally from a late 6-4 deficit, but they ended the Stars’ 13-game winning streak. Their record at the Christmas break was 25-11-1, and they had a commanding lead for first place in the Viterra Division. The club continued to play well after the Christmas break. They defeated the La Ronge Ice Wolves 8-3 on Feb. 17 to wrap up the Viterra Division title. After a well-earned bye in the first round of the playoffs, the Bruins faced the Yorkton Terriers in the quarter-finals. Estevan won three one-goal games to take a 3-0 series lead, and after Yorkton regrouped to win Game 4, the Bruins routed the Terriers 5-0 in Game 5 to take the series. The Bruins faced the Battlefords North Stars in the semifinal round. The Stars swept the Bruins in four straight to win the series and have since won the SJHL title for the first time since 2000. The Bruins had seven graduating 20-year-olds: goaltender Nathan Alalouf, defencemen Josh Rieger and Evan Scott, and forwards Levi Barnstable, Matt McNeil, Jason Miller and Lynnden Pastachak. Pastachak was the team’s captain this season. Good luck to all of them in the future. Congratulations to the Bruins on a successful campaign, and hopefully next season will be even better.
