Architectural Design: Final Year
Design Research Project (FYDRP)
Tutor: Dr SIEH Louie
Individual Work/Year 4
Living in a bustling city like Hong Kong, efficiency often takes center stage Historically, urban planners prioritized faster movement for both pedestrians and vehicles, but this approach has led to challenges and diminished the appeal of our streets In this project, we aim to slow down the pace of movement in Kennedy Town, encouraging a more leisurely lifestyle. By promoting the conceptofslowliving, wehopetoenhancethe overallsenseofwell-beinginthecommunity

THR RED HOUSE
Low-Rise/Marriage Hall
Integrated Building Project Development (IBPD)
Tutor: Dr. Charlie XUE
Group Work/Year 4
Teammates:
“The Red Box” is a new Cultural facility in Hung Hom Bay The building is designed for the Phase III in Hung Hom Bay master plan, with 1 - 2 storey high Marriage registry hall, exterior greenery and supporting facilities. The project aims to enrich the Hung Hom shoreline with provision of public realm and create connections within residential neighborhoods.

DESIGNCONCEPT
The overall design draws inspiration from The Red Thread of Marriage, an East Asian belief rooted in Chinese mythology. This concept envisions an invisible red cord that connects the fingers of those destined to meet symbolizing their "true love." In Chinese culture, the color red represents happiness and is prominently featured in traditional weddings This theme is woven throughout the building, with the "Red Thread" appearing in design elements such as the façade railings and spiral staircase.
Space Articulation & Urban Response
The site offers a stunning sea view, but the pier obstructs much of the view to the southern part of the sea. To address this challenge, the building is designed in a triangular shape ensuring that all rooms maintain visual connections to the sea.
The location also presents significant opportunities to attract visitors from Whampoa Garden and the waterfront. Retail spaces and tea shops are strategically placed on the ground floor creating inviting spaces for shopping and dining.
Additionally the building is envisioned as a connector between the Phase II development and the Hung Hom Bay waterfront A bridge located on the first floor facilitates seamless access between Phase II and the waterfront, enhancing pedestrian flow and integration
