MULTI-FAMILY HOUSING NOVEMBER 2016 - Duration: 5 weeks
Project: Design a multi-family dwelling in historic district of Mount Vernon Location: Baltimore, MD - Intersection of North Charles St. and Read St. Design Solution: Charles Crossing Apartments is comprised of two “L” shaped components that come together around a central courtyard, linked to each other through small amenity spaces that act as a portal to the street outside. The courtyard is visible from street level through the lobby space on Read St. and a food courtyard on N. Charles St. The amenity spaces act as links for the residents within the building as well as to the outside. The differing heights of the “L” components relate directly to context and solar orientation, respecting the church on Read Street, in addition to allowing maximum light into the interior spaces. The thinner, shorter ‘L’ houses few large units, while the taller ‘L’ contains many smaller units.

Project: Group masterplan project in a district of Chestertown, located in Kent County, MD Location: Chestertown, MD Design Solution: Our team proposed an arts district within Chestertown, promoting the growth of art and entertainment in one of Maryland’s designated art counties. The district abuts the agricultural fields, contains the historical rail trail that is currently under utilized, and borders: Washington College, the residential district, High Street urban core, and the waterfront. The new ArtLine helps make connections to important markers in Chestertown. The art displayed has a different relationship with its surroundings throughout the trail. Through the increased density, walkability + alternate means of transportation, and the new shops and services, the ArtLine helps to support the economic, social, and environmental change we hope to see in the city.

PLANT BIO LIBRARY APRIL 2016 - Duration: 5 weeks
Project: Design a library acting as link between downtown edge and park. Location: Frederick, MD Design Solution: Through building edge, transparency, and biophilic design, the library links the nearby greenspaces to the commercial and residential areas of the neighborhood. The individual pods contain the different function/program of the library. The pods react to the views, site surroundings, and environment. These pods are distinguished by various interior materials, architectural elements, and different cladding techniques, all while maintaining the common materiality and grid system for the exterior cladding system.

DC SOUNDROOM JANUARY 2016 - Duration: 4 weeks
Project: Design three sound studios and jam area within constraints of tight, row home space. Location: Washington, DC’s H Street Corridor Design Solution: The curve defines the space and is experienced differently throughout the journey - transcending its simple form as it becomes the floor, ceiling, acoustic soundproofing, and the experience itself. From the moment of interaction with the curving element, one is guided through a journey of performance, collaboration, and success. While the curve is the first interaction with DC Soundroom, it is also the last - bringing you back to the street with a new perspective.

DC Soundroom, Extended Facade Study FEBRUARY 2016 - Duration: 1.5 weeks
Initially, the site for DC Soundroom was a vacant storage shell located in a commercial district in Madrid, Spain and the project did not include a facade. After designing the interior space, the project location was shifted to H street. The H street location required a new facade design that would incorporate the designed interior and the new DC street context.

Classical Civic Center SEPTEMBER 2016 - Duration: 5 weeks
Project: Design a civic concert hall dealing with a shift in axis between the entrance and the Great Room, all the while becoming familiar with the classical language. Hand drafted. Design Solution: Upon entering, one is diverted off axis to an antichamber (purchase tickets) before progressing to the Grand Stair, which constantly remains in sight and lit from skylights above. Traveling up the stairs, the visitor is realigned with the Great Room, entering the concert hall on the new established axis.

ARTIST’S STUDIO NOVEMBER 2015 - Duration: 4 weeks
Project: Studio residence + showroom for choice artist Location: Georgetown, DC Aqueduct Bridge Design Solution: Alexander McQueen, through fierce and striking fashion, brings about societal change and challenges the norm. His new gallery, residence, and studio speaks to McQueen as an artist. The striking, dark core pierces through a single, folding element, bringing about transformation and distortion of form to create something unique. Against the backdrop of the orthagonal Georgetown skyline, McQueen’s new studio is just as fierce as his pieces.
