Meet Jody Nakoneshny Owner of The Lakeshore Welcome to The Lakeshore! My start in the beauty industry began in 1997 shortly after my son was born. I had always been drawn to the nail industry and decided to take a nail course. My beauty career expanded into other services like waxing, tinting, spray tanning, mani’s and pedi’s. Sadly, I had to give up doing nails when I developed an allergy and just at the time my calendar was consistently full of clients. Possessing a bit of a stubborn streak, I refused to allow that to set me back and I ran a successful home based mini spa business for 9 years before the opportunity presented itself in the form of a retail space in Chestermere, Alberta. This was a big step for me and our family, both personally and financially. Owning and operating a small business is no easy task but with the support of my two kids and my husband, we took the plunge. The image I had in my head for a spa was quite different from other Spas. I envisioned a cozy, rustic, relaxing space where you could laugh out loud or sit quietly but either was acceptable. This was a place where people gathered, drank tea or coffee and visited with each other in my lakeside cabin themed beauty parlour. I drew inspiration from larger destination spas by offering the types of services you would enjoy but without the large price tag. Now we don’t have sauna’s or pools, but we have little personal items to fix your hair, freshen your breath or reapply deodorant, in our bathroom filled with inspirational sayings. We offer high quality tea flavours, coffee, chocolate and salt water taffy to our guests and recently added wine and prosecco to our menu. We use scented towels, fuzzy blankets, pillows and beautiful birch décor to create the most amazing space you’ve been in. Fast forward 6 years and I work in this lively space with 10 other talented people. Our service offering is wide from massage, all esthetics, medical cosmetic injectables to laser services. My love for this industry is great and I celebrate new Estheticians joining our industry because it can be very rewarding. I have a great desire to see continued growth for the business, possibly even a second location down the road and although peppered with a few setbacks along the way, we have persevered. My words of wisdom to pass on to anyone considering opening a retail spa business: plan, plan & plan, be prepared to work hard, surround yourself with the right people, make sure to take some time for yourself and never give up.

“The beauty industry is an amazing place to be and you hold a very valuable skill in your hands, the ability to soothe, calm, influence and affect someone's life in a very short period of time.
