Greetings: Welcome to Eta Chi Omega’s 27th Winter Cotillion - “The Enchanted Garden of Emeralds!” We are delighted to present twenty young ladies all of whom exude poise, pride and intelligence. Our cotillion program is designed to nurture these young ladies as they prepare for womanhood, leadership and service. This year marks the 111th year anniversary of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. Since our inception, we have provided programs of service locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. We are extremely proud to continue to serve our community through our international programming. Our International President, Dr. Glenda Glover, has created a bold program of service that our local chapter will eagerly promote. The program theme “Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service” challenges us to make an impact through service in the following areas: HBCU 4 Life: A Call to Action will focus on education and sustainability of historically black colleges and universities by increasing applications and enrollment; #CAP SM – the Signature Program - is designed to assist students in the application process to college thereby increasing college admissions; Women’s Healthcare and Wellness will raise awareness of health issues affecting women particularly African American women; Building Your Economic Legacy is designed to educate the community on financial planning and wealth building; The Arts! will focus on the performing arts and showcase local talent; Global Impact is designed to identify and assist those in need through national and international programs. We invite you to be a part of our Community Impact Days for 2019: • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. International Day of Service (January 21, 2019) • Pink Goes Red for Heart Health Day (February 1, 2019) • AKA Global Impact Day Observance (April 12, 2019) • AKA International Day of Prayer Observance (August 25, 2019) • AKA HBCU Day Observance (September 16, 2019) • Breast Cancer Awareness Day (October 7, 2019) • AKA Caregivers’ Day Observance (November 15, 2019) On behalf of Eta Chi Omega Chapter, thank you parents for entrusting your daughters with us and thank you - the community - for your continued support. Tonight, we are delighted to present twenty (20) outstanding young ladies from our communities who possess the characteristics to do nothing less than impress! Join us as we celebrate and congratulate the “Enchanted Garden of Emeralds!!”

Sincerely Marilyn D. Marshall, MD President, 2019-2021 Eta Chi Omega Chapter Lafayette, La 3

Greetings! As I sit in “The Enchanted Garden of Emeralds,” reminiscing about days gone by, I recall that during the presentation of the first Debutante Winter Cotillion Ball, I was serving as President of Eta Chi Omega Chapter. We presented six lovely ladies at the first ball, and at our twenty-seventh ball, twenty beautiful young ladies are being presented.

Sincerely,

Golden Member Constance Y. Butler Winter Cotillion Co-Chairman

Greetings!

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the 27th Annual Debutante Winter Cotillion. Tonight we present 20 lovely young ladies in “The Enchanted Garden of Emeralds”. Six months ago, these young ladies were strangers. Tonight they come together as a beautiful team, bonded through a series of social and educational activities which included a lock-in, workshops on college preparation, tours of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and a Mother-Daughter Hat Luncheon. These activities are closely aligned to the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. ® program theme, “Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service” which focuses on education and sustainability of historically black colleges and universities and increasing college admissions by assisting students in the application process. These young ladies’ biographies show their excellence in academics, athletics, church and community involvement, and artistic endeavors. They possess all of the characteristics needed for continued success. Special thanks go out to debutantes’ parents, Winter Cotillion Committee Members and members of Eta Chi Omega Chapter for their immeasurable support throughout this debutante season. This event and the numerous activities leading up to it would not have been possible without them.

Sincerely,

Alfreda Thompson-Jackson

Winter Cotillion Co-Chairman 4

“Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.” Maya Angelou “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.” --Marianne Williamson It has been a joy to help guide you as you grew from an inquisitive little girl into the intelligent and beautiful young woman you have become. You have always jumped at the sun, putting your best effort forth and excelling in school and extra-curricular activities. We have watched you overcome fear and insecurity and walk forward with bravery. As you go out into the world, remember the lessons we have taught you: lessons of love and kindness, lessons of moving forward despite loss and sadness, lessons of service to Debutante Bre’ahni Plowden those less fortunate, lessons of forgiveness. Don’t be afraid to let your light shine. Remember who and whose you are! And, as you make manifest the glory of God that is within you, dear girl, we will be with you each step of the way—forever in your corner as you navigate life.

Love Always, Daddy and Mimi

Introducing Noa Jamir Debutante 2019!!!! Dear Noa Jamir what we have to say to you, you’ve already said it in your original songs. Never let anyone dim your light because “You’re a Shining Star!” When someone attempts to change your essence or change your art, say no thank you “I like it that way.” Your dreams are yours and you should follow them as if you were “Chasing the Rain.” You have the ability to shine in the midst of the “Summertime Snow” when you cannot see the sun just “Shine On.” You have powerful discernment. Trust your instincts to guide you because you’re an “Indigo” child and you know where you are going. As you make your debut tonight, it is bitter sweet because it marks the beginning of your adulthood symbolizing your leaving the nest. No matter how far you may fly, “Sweet Bird,” you will always be like “Honey Stains” on our hearts. You don’t have to ask, “If this true” because the life you’ve lived thus far is proof. We gave you, “All [we] had to give” but it’s God who gives you “All the Stars.” Stand on your faith and all of Gods “Promises.” We know all you’ve ever wanted to do is music. We pray that you allow God to continue using you to bring and give love to others through your compassionate heart, encouraging spirit and inspiring nature.

Love, Mom and Dad 78
