The IT industry is rapidly evolving all the time as technology emerges and becomes more advanced. Our computing courses could help you turn your interest for IT into a future career as you will develop new skills in areas such as web design, computer games development, programming and network management and lots more.

We invite guest speakers into class throughout the year to give you an insight into working in IT. You will also work on work-related projects using live briefs to get a feel for what it’s really like working in the IT industry.

INTRODUCTORY CERTIFICATE IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

LEVEL 1 – 1 YEAR

WHAT WILL I DO?

You will learn a range of digital and life skills to prepare you for work, including managing information, creating and using spreadsheets, working with others, problem solving, selfmanagement and development and managing an enterprise project.

YOU NEED:

Two GCSEs at grade 2 or an IT assessment. If you don’t already have an English and maths GCSE grade 9-4/A*- C, you will continue to work towards this as part of your main programme of study*.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Progress to a relevant level 2 course such as the Level 2 Technical Diploma in IT or in Digital Media.

TECHNICAL DIPLOMA IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

LEVEL 2 – 1 YEAR

WHAT WILL I DO?

This course will help you develop your understanding and provide the relevant skills to understand and progress in to the world of IT, you will engage in a range of exciting and varied units to help you decide on the route you wish to follow to get to your chosen Destination of employment. Skills include communications & working in it industry*, computer systems*, computer game design, software development, installing hardware components and customising software. * These are core units

This course can be worth the equivalent of 3 GCSEs. You will also do GCSE/Functional Skills in maths/English if required.

YOU NEED:

A relevant level 1 qualification or four GCSEs at grades at 2 or above. If you don’t already have an English and maths GCSE grade 9-4/A*- C, you will continue to work towards this as part of your main programme of study*.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Level 2 in Information and Creative Technology provides the skills, knowledge and understanding for level 2 learners to progress to:

Other level 2 vocational qualifications. Level 3 qualifications, such as the Pearson BTEC Level 3 Nationals in IT or an IT/Creative Media apprenticeship. Academic qualifications, such as GCSE or GCE A Level in ICT or Computing.
