Makeup for the Stage and Screen students turned Stockton Riverside College into a catwalk last summer. Focusing on a different theme every year, students turned to a topic that is at the forefront of Stockton Riverside College’s mind; green issues. Highlighting issues such as pollution, the fur trade and forest fires, students brought their models to life using body paint and props to hammer their message home.

When asked about the theme of the event, Makeup for Production Arts teacher, Nina, said: “We were inspired by the work we did last year with the Festival of Thrift around sustainability. It’s a really important issue that’s been brought to light in the last few years and we really wanted to focus on that.”

PRODUCTION ARTS (MAKEUP FOR THE STAGE AND SCREEN)

LEVEL 3 - 2 YEARS

WHAT WILL I DO?

Would you love to work in the creative makeup industry? With our production arts course you could work in theatre, TV, film, photography or move on to higher education. You will gain hands-on experience by working on projects and assignments that are linked to real theatre, film and fashion show productions. You’ll take part in a large exhibition and have the chance to showcase your work on live models. Every year our students attend the International Makeup Trade Show in London and work with huge local organisations such as the Festival of Thrift and Teesside University on fashion shows and photoshoots. This course can be worth the equivalent of 3 A* at A level.

YOU NEED:

Four GCSEs grade 5/C and above including English and preferably an art related subject or a level 2 qualification in a related subject or appropriate industry.

WHAT’S NEXT?

You could progress on to a foundation degree in media makeup or related production arts subject. You can secure work in the television theatre or film industry, as a freelance makeup artist, or in photography studios, retail or teaching.

These courses are a part of APTA. For more information go to page 15. If you don't already have a GCSE grade 9-4/A*-C, you will continue to work towards this as part of your main programme of study.
