INTRODUCTION TO THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

LEVEL 1 - 1 YEAR WHAT WILL I DO?

If you’re thinking about a career in the construction industry but are unsure of which trade to specialise in, this course could be perfect for you.

You will have the opportunity to try your hand at: • Joinery • Painting & Decorating • Electrical • Brickwork • Health and Safety

Once you pass your level 1 course, you can choose which level 2 course you want to move onto!*

YOU NEED:

There are no formal entry requirements, however, we have high standards and this will encourage the correct work ethic that the modern construction industry requires. We supply all required PPE, and materials, all you need is a pen and a positive attitude.

WHAT’S NEXT?

If completed then you will have a good grounding in construction, this could lead to progression to a level 2 diploma in your chosen trade area. Or you could apply for a level 2 property maintenance operative apprenticeship working for a local company.

*Electrical Installations requires a GCSE in both maths and English. Armun **Please note these are new courses and are subject Construction to approval/change.

DIPLOMA IN CONSTRUCTION & THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT

LEVEL 3 - 2 YEARS WHAT WILL I DO?

This level 3 course covers key areas of the construction industry including architectural design using CAD software, quantity and building surveying, construction technology, environmental science, sustainability in construction and health and safety. Studying will take place in the classroom and in our dedicated workshops within the College.

YOU NEED:

A level 2 qualification in any trade and a minimum of grade 4/5 for both maths and English.

WHAT’S NEXT?

After successfully completing this course you could continue your studies in higher education, with a Higher National Certificate in Construction, or at university. As the qualification is industry-recognised, you could also use it to gain employment in the industry.

CONSTRUCTION T LEVEL: (INCLUDING CARPENTRY AND BRICKLAYING *

LEVEL 3 - 2 YEARS

WHAT WILL I DO?

Students will learn about the following topics:

• Health and safety • Science • Measurement • Building technology • Information and data • Digital technology • Construction mathematical techniques • Design • Construction and the built environment industry • Sustainability • Relationship management • Commercial business • Project management • Law

YOU NEED:

Five GCSEs grade 4 or above. These must include a minimum of grade 4 in English, maths and science, plus a successful interview.

WHAT’S NEXT?

This technical qualification is intended for students who want to progress to a career in the construction sector, with a focus on surveying and design, civil engineering, building services design, or hazardous materials surveying.

Job roles could include: • Surveying technician • Civil engineering design technician • Digital engineering technician • Civil engineering technician • Architectural technician • Asbestos analysis surveyor
