Motion: Measuring motion up and down a slope using a Rotary Motion sensor
Position a Rotary Motion sensor at the top of the track and connect to an input on an EasySense data logger. The range of the sensor should be set to Pulley 49 mm. Position the track at the 10 cm mark on the vertical pillar to give an angle of about 5˚. Fix the TS1 thumbscrew to the top of the cart. Cut a piece of string slightly shorter than the length from the Rotary Motion sensor to the floor and attach to the thumbscrew. Attach a 20 g mass to the other end of the thread (the weight is to tension the thread, not pull the cart). Run the thread over the largest pulley. A thin bracket can be fitted to the track to mark the start position. Open the EasySense and select Graph. From the wizard select the following:
Time Interval
10 seconds 20 ms
Pull the cart back to its start position. Press the zero reset button on the Rotary Motion sensor. Select
Start to begin logging. Give the cart a sharp, but gentle push up the track - let it run up the track and return. Select Overlay, adjust the track to a new height / angle, and repeat.
