Ethical Clothing Australia can support your business by providing manufacturing contacts for the supply of textile, clothing and footwear products such as uniforms, workwear, Personal Protective Equipment, and a range of other items.

Utilising Ethical Clothing Australiaaccredited manufacturers ensures your business is procuring from legally compliant suppliers with industryspecific legislation, as well as national and state-based legislation. This assists in mitigating risks associated with common issues such as exploitation of workers, non-payment of entitlements including Superannuation and overtime, and unsafe working environments for workers.

ETHICAL CLOTHING AUSTRALIA

The accreditation program maps a business’s Australian supply chain from design to dispatch including initial design, pattern making, cut, make, trim and all value-adding services. This crucial work is done via annual compliance audits. The program encourages companies to view supply chain management as a fundamental part of the business.

Accredited manufacturers sign on to Ethical Clothing Australia’s Code of Practice, which has Australian Competition and Consumer Commission authorisation. Once accredited, and dependent on a successful annual audit, accredited manufacturers can use the Ethical Clothing Australia trademark on their Australian-made products. This applies to either their entire operations, majority of products or specific product lines.

Action Items for Procurement Managers

• Ask your current textile, clothing and footwear suppliers about where their products are made. Even if the supplier is based in Australia, many products sourced in Australia are not necessarily manufactured locally.

• Review Ethical Clothing Australia’s directory of accredited manufacturers and reach out to those who have the capability to locally manufacture the required items.

• Start off with small changes if an overall supply chain re-structure is not possible. For example, start by bringing one product line or valueadding service onshore to be produced by local manufacturers.
