Often known as vegetable ivory, it is a sustainable and environmentally sound alternative to animal ivory. Outlawing torture Our research, campaigning and advocacy ensured that the UN Convention Against Torture (1984) would oblige governments to investigate torture and prosecute the perpetrators, wherever in the world the torture took place. Holding war criminals to account We played a leading role in the international campaign to establish a fair, effective and independent court to prosecute genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. The International Criminal Court was established in 2002. Controlling the arms trade With our partners in the Control Arms Coalition, we campaigned for a binding international agreement to control the trade in deadly weapons.
