Introduction ETHOS EVENTS and HRIMA magazine are pleased to present Hospitality Forum & Awards, which will take place on 17 June 2015 at the Ethniki Asfalistiki Conference Center. The Greek hotel sector is the backbone and heavy industry of Greek tourism. It should not be considered as a mere component of the hospitality services network, given that it contributes 75% of the latter's total revenues in Greece. However, Greek hotels do not enjoy proportionate profits and are often regarded with suspicion. There is a need for viable solutions to the various problems of the sector, which will help maximize the profits of Greek economy, especially in times of recession. The main problems of hotel businesses are of structural nature and most of them have remained unresolved for decades. Dependence on Tour Operators, low level of personnel specialization, low and middle income tourists, overcrowding of popular destinations, deficiencies of land development plans and intense seasonality with concentration of tourist flows in the summer months, are among the most important problems of the industry. Other challenges that hotels have to face are the uncontrolled sprawl and illegal operation of small lodging businesses which discredit the Greek tourist product, the high cost of services outside the hotels, the insufficiency of infrastructures in less popular destinations and the more and more intense competition from neighboring countries. As for the prospects of the hotel industry, the development of alternative forms of tourism to smoothen the fluctuation of tourist traffic throughout the year, the new land planning framework, the increasing competition among airline companies, the new infrastructures all over the country and the increase of promotion funds create a supporting network for the hospitality sector within the current adverse economic landscape. Hospitality Forum & Awards includes: 1. The Hospitality Conference, consisting of the following sessions:

2. The Hospitality Awards 2015 Ceremony: The crowning event of the Forum is the Hospitality Awards Ceremony, which will take place on 17 June during a gala dinner. During the ceremony, 46 awards will be presented in a total of 4 categories. Hospitality Awards 2015 aims to reward and spotlight Greek hotel businesses that stand out for their innovative practices in the hospitality sector. Hospitality Forum & Awards 2015 does not seek to merely educate and inform the Greek hotel entrepreneur; its goal is to evolve into a conference-institution, the conclusions of which will serve as tools for Greek hotel owners, enabling them to maximize profits and study the constantly changing trends of the tourist market. Boosting of Competitiveness of Greek Hotels – Greek Brand Battling Seasonality – Development of Alternative Forms of Tourism Opening of New Markets Increasing Funds and Effectiveness of Promotional Activities Employment Subsidization The core of the structural problem of Greek tourism lies in the numerous obstacles that the main cogs of its mechanism, hotel businesses, have to overcome in order to enhance their competitiveness. This panel will discuss various methods of reinforcing Greek hotels against foreign competition. The participants will explore ways to promote the Greek Brand, by answering the following key questions: how could Greece secure a prominent position in the tourism market? What practices are being applied internationally? What solutions are proposed in order to smoothen seasonality and at the same time increase the duration of the season of a particular tourist destination or hotel facility? This panel will also propose the proper measures that the Greek state as well as hospitality businesses need to take in relation to the development of alternative forms of tourism and the opening of new markets, which constitute major tools in the effort to make Greek hotels more competitive. Furthermore, various solutions for increasing the country's promotion funds will be analyzed, while the “trick” to control campaign effectiveness will be revealed. Finally, given that tourism in general and hotels in particular are sectors of the economy that contribute significantly to the creation of job opportunities, the new framework for employment subsidization/ economic assistance of hotel employees will be presented. It is a fact that Greek hotels are under-insured and many hotel owners ignore that choosing the right insurance company plays a key role in the protection of their businesses against any kind of risk and the prompt payment of insurance compensations. In this panel all available types of insurance coverage will be analyzed. Hospitality Forum and Awards will explain all the factors/ criteria on which hotel owners should base their choice of insurance company, ensuring that this decision will add value to their products.
