ANALYSIS The participation of mediators is key to the evolution of the insurance industry as well as to market growth. Mediation procedures have undergone radical changes resulting in the reform of the sector on many levels. Regulatory and legal interventions were the starting point of a fundamental transformation of practices and habits that were established in the market so far. The evolution of the sector is related to individual or collective initiatives by the mediators. Their advancement is linked to education, Internet applications, partnerships and the adoption of new tactics. Experts and professionals of the field explain where the market stands and how it prepares for the future. A series of innovative actions and the various developments in the sector constitute the first reliable facts on the transition to the new era and signal the coming of more changes in mediation procedures. PANEL 3 TOPIC: Private Health Care and Pension Plans at a critical juncture.
The increase in life expectancy combined with low birth rates make national economies, citizens and private insurance turn to integrated insurance programs. What do these include and how are they implemented autonomously or in cooperation with the state? How will the insurance sector grow according to international standards and what is the situation in the Greek market? Is it viable for Greece to maintain its current pension and health care system? The role of the private sector and the alternatives it offers to securing the citizens' future. Low interest rates in insurance companies investments and their impact on insurance products and insurers' balance sheets.
ANALYSIS Ongoing developments in international economy have brought dramatic changes in the sectors of health care and pensions. The increase in life expectancy rates, the problem of social security systems overload and global practices have resulted in the invention of a new model. All over the world, insurance companies have already assumed a role which is supplementary to public social systems. In Greece, conditions have matured so as to allow the beginning of substantial cooperation between the state and the private sector. The readiness of the companies and the various processes that are being conducted constitute a turning point for constructive action. What are the positions of the companies and what do government authorities maintain? How much time is needed to find a common denominator for growth and
ETHOS MEDIA S.A.: 29, Thessalias str. GR-17456, Alimos, Athens T (+30 210 9984 950)
how long will it take to implement it? Do low interest rates in insurance investments have an impact on companies' economic strength and do they hinder their growth? PANEL 4 TOPIC: New challenges in the insurance market: Solvency II, risk management, technology and innovation.
How prepared are companies for the implementation of the Solvency directive from 1.1.2016 onwards? Which changes have been concluded and which are still to be programmed? How will insurance companies be controlled and what measures will the Bank of Greece take in cases of divergence? How are insurance companies internally organized, to what extent do they utilize technological tools and how can they secure their capital adequacy? The responsibility of insurance companies Management Boards and the new changes that are being signaled. European or national Solvency? To what degree is the separation of the two needed and what are the prospects of the adoption of different speeds and views?
ANALYSIS The application of the Solvency directive has a direct impact on the operation of insurance companies and the structure of the market. Insurers are making feverish preparations and discovering on a practical level which provisions and measures go against their established course of action. What do they need to change and how are they influenced by the new framework? The actions that have been realized, the role of the Bank of Greece, international supervision and the way the directive is being applied constitute the catalysts for the smooth transition of the companies to the next day. Experts of the sector will shed light on issues such as the level of insurers' readiness, how and when the green light will be given and whether there will be a period of implementation control as well as how long it will be. Who are those who guide the insurance industry through the application of the Solvency provisions and how? What is the position of the Greek market on the necessity of a uniform and national Solvency plan, in order to avoid wrong moves that could potentially lead to negative consequences?
