Spring After-School Classes
17 April through 2 June 2023
Spring is here! We are excited to introduce our offerings for the Spring! This session starts the week of 17 April and ends on 2 June. Classes are for seven weeks, except Mondays, which have six weeks, and Fridays have five weeks.
We welcome back Kids Yoga, Soccer, Capoeira, Magic, and our year-round classes, Sewing, Karate, and Chess. New classes for this session are Ukulele 101, Sports Smorgasbord, Journalism, and Web Development.
For Grades 1-8, registration begins on Monday, 27 March 2023, at 7:00 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis (with a wait list) and requires payment to secure a spot. Registration closes on Friday, 7 April 2023, at 12 p.m.
For Pre-elementary (P3-K), registration is on a lottery basis. Our class lottery registration policy is as follows:
• Registration for placement in a class lottery opens on Monday, 27 March 2023, at 7:00 a.m. and closes Wednesday, 29 March 2023, at 7:00 a.m.
• The person registering the student(s) receives a confirmation email of entry into the lottery for the chosen class. Please check your junk mail/clutter folders if it does not arrive.
• Each class registration receives a number, which is used in the lottery drawing through a random sequence generator on Wednesday, 29 March 2023, after registration closes. The person registering receives an email notification of the student’s placement either in the class or on the wait list.
• For those placed in a class, the email contains a link to an invoice for online payment using a credit card. Payment of the invoice must be completed by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, 31 March 2023, to secure placement in the class. A payment confirmation email is sent upon completion of paying an online invoice. Any placements not secured are offered to the students on the wait list.
• If a class is not full by Monday, 3 April 2023, registration and payment will be on a first-come, first-served basis, with payment invoices emailed to the person who submitted the registration.
Requests for refunds will only be entertained if made by 21 April 2023. All classes have a minimum number of students required before being offered. Failure to reach the minimum will result in a cancellation of the class. A notice of cancellation will be sent, and refunds will be processed.

Coach Bee’s Soccer Program aims to promote each player's personal and team development and help them reach their full potential. Drama Kids’ International’s Preschool Adventure program is a great way to introduce young students to the basic concepts of drama. Each week, students participate in themed warm-up activities, don their "imagination hats," and set off on an exploratory adventure. They learn to follow simple instructions and share their ideas while using their imaginations and senses. Rainbow Land, Sillyville, and Outer Space are just a few of our imagination destinations!

Specifically designed for preschool, Kids Yoga is a class that incorporates yoga with games, songs, stories, imaginative play, and activities promoting mindfulness. Each class is structured so students can learn breathing techniques, correct posture, and different yoga poses in a fun and nurturing environment. The class ends with reading a book on mindfulness or activities that teach self-calming or self-regulation. Among the benefits of yoga for children at this age is that it helps strengthen their growing bodies,and improves balance, strength, endurance, and flexibility.

WEBBY Dance Company® is offering fun and exciting dance classes weekly at Eton School! The professional instructors introduce students to pre-ballet, creative movement, and tumbling. They provide age-appropriate music, fun props, and an action-packed class! Students benefit by building their memory, concentration, coordination, creativity, and self-confidence, all in a positive atmosphere. Students dance to their favorite songs while using fun props like maracas, tambourines, pom-poms, leis, etc. With over 300 dances in the curriculum, students are regularly introduced to exciting new routines.

Karate-X offers awesome classes that are disciplined, challenging, and fun! Students learn and practice Karate skills with punching bags, breaking boards, blocking drills, kicking targets, and more! Karate-X has been teaching in the Puget Sound region for 20 years, with a Martial Arts program specifically designed for preschool and elementary students. Their professional instructors know how to motivate students while building self-confidence and discipline. Belt rank testing is held at the end of each session, giving students goals to aim for and recognition of their accomplishments.

Students learn the basics of the game of chess. They start with how every piece moves and the goal of the game. In every lesson, students receive puzzles to help them learn and there is plenty of practice with the coach and peers.

Let’s get active after-school! In this class, students play a different, carefully chosen sport or active game every session. They will put their bodies in motion and release surplus energy in a way that will help them be more present during the school day and at home. Students develop functional movement patterns that make them more effective and boost their self-esteem for other sports. Along the way, they practice teamwork, communication, and emotional self-regulation skills that help them everywhere, not just on the field or court.

The Bach to Rock Ukulele 101 class takes a student group through the first seven weeks of playing the ukulele. Students learn the basics of reading music, chord structure and names, and work towards being able to play songs. During the final class, parents/guardians are invited to a presentation of what the students have learned. Bach to Rock (B2R) of Redmond provides the ukuleles for this class.

In this class, students learn tactical chess ideas like pins, forks, and discoveries. Students work on puzzles learning how to checkmate the opponent in one or two moves, and on tactics. Students watch and learn from the short master and grandmaster games. There is a lot of chess-playing time too!

Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art combining dance, acrobatics, and music elements. It is the perfect way for students to release extra energy in a safe, fun, and constructive way. Students have fun learning the unique martial art of Capoeira with all the great kicks and techniques found in martial arts, but with the bonus of learning kid-friendly acrobatics. All this while developing self-confidence and self-control, all in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment!

Why just read about a magic school when you can attend a real one? The Seattle Magic Academy is returning with its popular magic classes. This time it’s the "Discover Magic Orange Wand, Unlocking Wonder” magic course (different color wand courses offered can be taken in any order). In addition to learning amazing magic tricks, students develop communication skills and self-confidence. All materials are provided, including custom magic tricks developed specifically for children (but will amaze adults), "secret" file folders that have lots of tips and additional tricks, access to a secret online video vault where students can review everything taught in class, graduation certificate, an orange magic wand, and more! The real magic happens after class when the students go home and perform their tricks! Seattle Magic Academy is led by Xakary the Magician, who received all “YES” votes when he appeared on America’s Got Talent.

Students are invited to learn a skill they will use for a lifetime and a hobby they will forever enjoy—sewing! No experience is necessary for any child to learn the basics and beyond. Classes are designed to teach children both beginning and advanced skills. New students will learn machine safety, beginner sewing techniques, and complete two prerequisite projects, while the more experienced students can expand on skills they already have. This class is student-led, and they advance at their own pace with autonomy over the projects they choose to create. Projects rotate each session, including bags, backpacks, games, clothing, accessories, stuffed animals, and more!

New students will learn machine safety and beginner sewing techniques, while the more experienced students can expand on skills they already have. This class is student-led, and they advance at their own pace with autonomy over the projects they choose to create. Projects rotate each session and include seasonal tops and bottoms, bags, purses (from tiny to extra-large), and accessories.!

Students take the first steps in Web Development and start on the path to making the great websites of tomorrow! Designed for beginners, students are introduced to the basics of HTML and build a simple website. They will learn how to lay out a web page, mark up content, handle images, navigation, etc. By the end of the course, students will have a good understanding of how a web page works!

Do you love writing?

Have you ever wanted to publish articles online or have something you wrote go viral? In this class for budding writers, students work on all of the above as they learn how to be a junior journalist. You will interview friends, learn how to write well, and craft weekly articles about events at your school. At the end of the class, students team up to write an actual article that will be submitted for publication in a local newspaper. Students need to bring their own laptop.
