The Etsy Market is a series of virtual shopping events that pop up across different cities around the world. Some events are run by groups of Etsy sellers, directly sharing their creativity with their community. Others are run by us, with the goal of celebrating incredible makers. Either way, you’re sure to have an incredible, inspiring time!
Welcome to the Etsy Market: Atlantic Edition Explore a one-of-a-kind world. We are so excited to bring you this carefully curated Lookbook full of some of your favorite Atlantic Canadian Makers. Etsy Atlantic is a collective group of Etsy sellers coming together from New Brunswick, PEI, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland & Labrador. Every year, Etsy teams gather together to put out local markets. In person markets weren’t possible for Summer 2021. So we’ve put together this virtual market for you to explore unique items, support our makers and have some fun!
#standwithsmall When you buy from a handmade maker, you are buying so much more than just an object. You are buying hundreds of hours of failures and experimentation. You are buying days, weeks and months of frustrations and moments of pure joy. You aren’t just buying a thing, you’re buying a piece of a heart, a part of a soul and a moment in someone's life.

Blended and poured by hand, all products are vegan, phthalate-free and made with all natural ingredients. Home. Made. What inspires you? The natural environment—all of my scents have been developed from outdoor experiences. Brackish for example is made from river mint, wild rose and kelp. Add on the smell the ocean and nearby florals like rose, and it became something I wanted to relive. What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve received? I was feeling self conscious that other people had started doing things similar to what I do. A mentor of mine told me that what I’ve created came from me, my creativity and there was no one else that was going to put as much heart into it as I would. A few years later, they were right, what other people were doing wasn't a threat to me or my business. I really believe in community of competition.

Crafted by Granola Kayla Hunter Newfoundland & labrador I've been creating art all my life - in one form or another. But it wasn't until I went digital that I discovered an entirely new passion for art. I ditched the paintbrush for an Apple Pencil and the canvas for an iPad and discovered that digital art allows me to express my creativity in ways I never could before. Now, I draw anything and everything that makes me happy, hoping that the digital art I make on my couch can bring a little extra joy into other people's homes. What is your favourite part of having an Etsy shop? The community! Being able to share my work with a larger audience while at the same time being exposed to the wonderful work of other creators. What is your biggest strength? Having the autonomy to create the art I actually want to make and not just art I think other people will like. What are three words that best describe you or your business? Flowers, food, and fun!

Twisted Knickers Shop
Arlene MacAusland Prince Edward Island “Knot your thread, not your knickers.”
My Etsy shop focuses mainly on my patterns and craft kits for wool applique, soft toy sewing and tin punch. The patterns vary in skill level from "first sewing adventure" to "birthday party craft" and from "I can cut a perfect circle" to "sewing circle clubs". The patterns and colors are nostalgic of my life on Prince Edward Island. What is your favourite part of the business process? Selling PDFs. It's my best green option which reduces packaging cost, printing costs, transportation and allows the buyer to use their own supplies.
What are the three things you can’t live without? My scissors, thread collection and fabric stash. I started hoarding velvets and sparkles for my Barbie dolls in the 70's. That stash has expanded to include wools, felt, cotton, polyester, tulle, vintage clothing and chenille bedspreads. What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve received? Sell your patterns as kits. That gave me a whole new market of people to sell to with little change involved. Some of my original patterns will not be available until after I retire. What is your biggest strength? I'm spatially anal. This detailed thinking carries over into my pattern design and written instructions. My patterns are easy to follow, colorful and print at scale!
ES Designs Shop
Emily Somers New Brunswick My mom, Saunders, a former teacher, always insisted on "please" and "thank you". After every holiday, birthday, or celebration she would ask, "Have you written a thank you note?" I would then be promptly sent to a table or desk to write one. Tedious as this task seemed to me as a child, I realized how important this was when my grandmother showed me the box of my saved letters sent to her over the years, as I visited her in her nursing home. Handwritten letters and writing to say thank you are quickly becoming a lost art. To honour my mother's memory, I have started a greeting card company. A portion of the sale of each item will go to support local charities. What is your favourite part of having an Etsy shop? I love that the orders come from everywhere and I love including personal touches in people's orders.
My Girl’s Fun Stuff Shop
Shauna Milley Prince Edward Island I love playing with color, which is why I enjoy working with beads. I have many ready to ship items available, but I also offer custom options. My photo and custom keychains make beautiful, heartfelt gifts for any occasion. Let me help you share special memories with loved ones. What is your favourite part of having an Etsy shop? I love having my shop "open" 24 hours a day and seeing my products ship all over the world is very exciting! What is your biggest strength? I take great care in providing timely communication and excellent customer service. What inspires you? I am inspired by bright colors. They really give me a creative boost. What is your favourite part of the business process? My favourite part of the business process is hearing how much customers love their items.
Island Flower Girl PEI Shop
Alisha Horwood Prince Edward Island Dried flowers feel more wild to me. All of the textures, the colours that range from soft pastels to warm and rich caramel. When designing I am swept back in time to my childhood growing up in Newfoundland, or to warm summer days on PEI in my adulthood, spent exploring abandoned farmers fields filled with butterflies. I really try to put this love of nature that I feel into every floral design that I make. I hope that you can feel this too. 🖤 What inspires you? Nature inspires me! I think that people need nature. Flowers seem to have this intrinsic way of evoking feelings of calmness and also joy. I think on some level they make us feel like we are connected to something bigger than ourselves to nature, to humanity.
How was your love of flowers born? Flowers have been a part of my life in some capacity since I can remember. My Mom started arranging dried flowers as a hobby when I was a little girl. I would love helping her pick out colours and place the stems in floral foam. However it was also Nan who ignited the love of flowers in my heart. I would help her plant out a big garden of flowers every year and fill big concrete planters full of blooms to dress the front veranda.
Hazel Bea Shop
Kate Hunter New Brunswick Because happiness is handmade
I taught myself to crochet during my first pregnancy as a way to fill my need to "make" and cope with Hyperemesis Gravidarum. When my youngest daughter was born prematurely I once again found myself using crochet as a way to cope during long hours in the NICU. Hazel Bea started in 2016, when I was unable to return to my job after maternity leave and my little hobby became my full-time gig! What three words best describe your business? Quality, Cozy & Comfort - These are the three things I want my products to bring to my customers What is your favorite part about having an Etsy shop?
There are so many things I love about having an Etsy shop, it so cool to think that there are people all over the world wearing something I made. I have also had some really cool opportunities because of my Etsy shop like being part of an Etsy X collection last fall.
What is the best piece of business advice you have been given? Don’t compare your beginning to someone else's middle. I struggle with this one so much! What Inspires you? Honestly, I am so inspired by the incredible amount of makers with in this community, putting together this lookbook and reading though peoples answers and their stories is so inspiring to me! What is your biggest strength? I love a challenge and problem solving, coming up with new ideas and brainstorming solutions. What are three things you can’t live without? Yarn, My Family & Chips
