Inplaceofthewetmarketandsupermarketthat currently coexist, Alor Setar's Market is a collection of reconfigured vernacular buildings that serve as the intersections for food, culture, and commerce The idea is a response to current initiatives aimed at restoring the market to its former splendour. An alternative food market was created as a response, with the goal of incorporating the old market building, reconnecting community with the place where food was first distributed, and fostering cultural traditions, community rebirth, and a slower pace of life. In order to reactivate them for use by the public as a new kind of urban existing space, I want to maintain the openness and distinctive character of both. These areas will serve as the physical and programmatic definition of the site as areas for social interaction, intercultural exchange, leisure, andrest.
The concept addresses the potential connection between the building's deterioration and the promise of giving it a new lease on life by integrating it into the urban footprint. The project examines the collection's importance through its reinstitution as a memory fragment as well as its reinvention as an artefact in a landscape created in ways that allow the past to resound into the myriad of current realities of food distribution, production, and consumption. The building is carefully examined to see what is present, what can be saved and repurposed, and what should be included. It is the antithesis of starting with a blank slate and letting the existing inform and inspireconceptualthought

The use of the newly constructed to complement and enhance the old, therefore strengthening it, is done while attempting to preserve as much of the current fabric as feasible This is the concept of heritage revitalisation, which extends beyond the built environment alone and necessitates that programming considerations be made. A building or cluster of buildings can then be effectively revived It is crucial in this situation that the freshly constructed explicitly communicates that it is of today and not a recreation or simulation of the past, even though it is informedbytheexistent
Traditional Malay House constructions have been symbolically reconfigured to form the proposed new market Despite their historical reputations, several aspects of the architectural forms that emerge have an air of transitoriness and limited temporality that, when compared to the "Pasar Besar," provide a striking feeling of difference A comparison that is both respectful of the past while still making claims about improved functionality and present relevance. The new outbuildings serve, among other things, as a symbol of the demise of the agrarian landscape by acting as ghosts of a bygone era. Thus, the landscape concept turns into a play on sustenance: an investigation into what enduresversuswhatdisappears
Since the old and new structures never actually merge structurally, they instead do so in a false balance, the new metal figures generate newmarket spacesby hangingfromthe existingstructure rather than touching the ground. Within this area, the caged, subdued building writhes with a certain ferocity that lay between the recollection of its past existence and its present aspiration. It uncurls, curls back up, and presents aseriesoffreshareastoexplore.Thedesigngoalistomaximisetheuseof natural ventilation and lighting, which is important in the tropical climate, andtogivethespaceampleshadingandrainprotection.
In an effort to embrace local communities and contexts, the project is conceived as a hill shaped building covered in local vegetation and it aims to prioritize people through its complex system of social connections and interactions with nature. As an open spatial system, the project “aggregates its micro cells to the macro scale of the city,” and allows its users to define the use of its space, particularly via a circulation system that is “intertwined with the space that serves as a primary usable social condenser with its intricate successionofpublicplazasandverticalgardens”
Instead of creating boundaries, the Center furthermore “multiplies the interstitial space” through transparent and semi transparent curtain walls This openness allows the building to appear as a protective device and shading system for urban life, rather than a physically imposing mass Similarly, the local vegetation and trees compliment the project as an extension of the local environment and the hill that rises along Jalan 4/48 The building will be organized as a micro city with a multi level density, intertwining residential, garden, and other programs in clusters

All the space of the corner lot was to be conserved throughout the construction of theprojectsothatthereisanequalamount of public space, plazas, and gardens as there were beforehand. the board form concrete shell defines various orthogonal geometries that break down the large multi family housing into a more digestible human scale and reveals hidden corners and interstitial areas to be used by private inhabitantsorsharedamongstthepublic
This design combines a range of dwelling types in varying configurations, all seamlessly synthesized on the site. This range of apartment types and the idea of overlapping shared spaces that oscillate between private and public realms are used as an important component of community building and engagement Furthermore, the aggregation of these varied units in different scalar configurations ranging from low to mid rise building forms suggest choices in terms of living opportunities for different demographics across ages as well as income groups. Most critically, these aims and objectives are integrated into a form that is responsive to the urban fabric and contextinwhichitissituated

My design for Petaling Jaya is a complex network of alleyways, dead ends, and enclosed areas that evoketheperplexingfinancialtransactionsthattake place there Rather than communicating ideas about the City's architectural layout and evolution using conventional mapping methods, my intention wastousetheconceptofalabyrinth"asameansto observe the rather peculiar behaviours of different factions of society within the financial system." I sought a suitable metaphor to express its spatial complexity and the murky economic forces that informeditscurrentarrangement
The study began with the goal to test the theory that there is a labyrinthine concept underpinning the formation and expansion of Section 13. Later in the project, the labyrinth pattern evolved into a thought model for discussing current urban design concerns and the possibility of a new architectural style New structures gradually built to the district overtimewillamplifythesensationofbewilderment and disorientation now felt by financial professionals in its many tight corridors and dead endstreets.
The project's labyrinthine architectural language is delicate, collaged, and fragmented, and it aspires for spatial complexity, where the inhabitants' emotions and sentiments are amplified It is a translation not only of the physical aspects of the City's urban structure, but also of the frequently contradictory state of affairs seen in the financial market, generating tales through architecture that only City workers would completelygraspandappreciate."
