European University Institute The European University Institute (EUI) is one of the world’s leading academic institutions for postgraduate studies, specialising in the fields of economics, law, history, and social and political science. The EUI is located on the hills overlooking Florence, and stands out for its unique international character and strong European focus in teaching and research. It was founded in 1972 by the European Community Member States to provide advanced training to Ph.D. and LL.M. researchers and to promote research at the highest levels.
ECONOMICS AT THE EUI The EUI Economics Department brings together top scholars from all over the world in an outstanding research and teaching environment. The Department aims at producing the future generation of top-class researchers in Economics, working in academia and in the public and private sector, mostly in Europe but also throughout the world. Our research objectives are to produce basic and applied research, contributing both to the advancement of our knowledge about the complexity of the economic systems and to the debate on economic and social issues in the European Union and beyond.
DOCTORAL PROGRAMME The teaching in the doctoral programme is based on formal high-level coursework in the areas of microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics. We offer a vast selection of basic, advanced and specialized graduate courses taught by faculty members and other visiting professors from top universities. An essential part of the programme consists of independent, but closely supervised, research, and doctoral candidates have regular opportunities to present and discuss their research within the department. The broad range of interests covered by current faculty enable them to supervise dissertations on a wide variety of topics within the three core areas.
