A designated horizontal exit is an egress from one compartment or building to another on roughly the same level, followed by a protected stairway or final departure that can be made directly or indirectly through a protected corridor.

04 | Exit Capacity Calculation

Purpose Group : Other Residential

Occupancy Load : according to schedule, occupant load = 20 m² / person assume ne floor area of one tower = 730m²

Occupant load per floor = 730 sqm / 20 =37 persons

Unit of Horizontal Exit Width : according to schedule, capacity exit = 60 persons / unit

Unit of exit width = occupancy load / capacity exit = 37 / 60 = 0.62 units

Unit of Staircase Exit Width : according to schedule, capacity exit = 45 persons / unit

Unit of exit width = occupancy load / capacity exit = 37 / 45 = 0.82 units

Minimum Required Width : required horizontal exit width = unit x 550mm if unit fraction ≥ 0.5, add 1 unit if unit fraction <0.5, add 300mm

(i) Required horizontal exit width = (1 x 550) + 300

= 850 mm

(ii) Required staircase exit width = 1 x 550

= 550 mm
