Rhinoceros A rhinoceros has one or two horns, and a thick (1.5–5 cm) protective skin formed from layers of collagen. They generally eat leafy material, although their ability to ferment food in their hindgut allows them to subsist on more fibrous plant matter when necessary. African species of rhinoceros lack teeth at the front of their mouths, relying instead on their lips to pluck food.
Leopard Compared to other wild cats, the leopard has relatively short legs and a long body with a large skull. Its fur is marked with rosettes. The leopard is distinguished by its well-camouflaged fur, opportunistic hunting behaviour, broad diet, strength, and its ability to adapt to a variety of habitats. It can run at speeds of up to 58 kilometers per hour.
Tiger The tiger is most recognisable for its dark vertical stripes on orangish-brown fur with a lighter underside. It is territorial and generally a solitary but social predator, requiring large contiguous areas of habitat, which support its requirements for prey and rearing of its offspring. Tiger cubs stay with their mother for about two years, before they become independent and leave their mother's home range to establish their own.
Elephant Elephants are the largest existing land animals. African elephants have larger ears and round backs, whereas Asian elephants have smaller ears, and level backs. The trunk is used for breathing, bringing food and water to the mouth, and grasping objects. Tusks, serve both as weapons and as tools for moving objects and digging.
Lion The lion is a muscular, deep-chested cat with a short, rounded head, a reduced neck and round ears, and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail. Adult male lions have a prominent mane, which is the most recognisable feature of the species. Lions have been known to hunt humans, although the species typically does not.
Zebra Zebras are several species of African equids (horse family) united by their distinctive black-and-white striped coats. Their stripes come in different patterns, unique to each individual. They are generally social animals that live in small herds. Unlike their closest relatives, horses and donkeys, zebras have never been truly domesticated.
Fox Foxes live in burrows and typically sire two to four pups a year. The pups will stay with the mother for about a year and a half until they are grown. Foxes are scavengers by nature but will hunt when the opportunity arises.
Kangaroo The kangaroo is one of the most common animals in Australia. Kangaroo in the Aboriginal language literally translates into “I don’t know”. Kangaroos are the largest marsupials currently alive.
Deer The deer species is originally from Eastern Europe but has been introduced to other parts of the world, too, like South Africa. These deer are one of the longer living species, with a life span of 12-16 years.
Giraffe The giant giraffe is the tallest animal walking the world today. The number of vertebrae in the neck of the giraffe is the exact amount found in humans, 7.
White Tiger The white Bengal tigers are distinctive due to the colour of their fur. The white fur caused by a lack of a pigment , which is found in Bengal tigers with orange color fur.
Peacock The Indian peacock, also known as the common peafowl, is a species native to the Indian subcontinent. It has been introduced to many other countries.
Flamingo Flamingos are distributed throughout the Americas, including the Caribbean, and two species are native to Africa, Asia, and Europe.
Crane The crane are native to the dry marsh lands and savannahs of Africa. The Grey crowned crane is known for its mating display where a male and female “dance” together for hours.
Owl Owls are nocturnal and become active around thirty minutes prior to nightfall, and around thirty minutes before sunrise. The feathers of an owl are designed perfectly for silent flight.
Macaw Macaws are a tropical species of birds. They can be characterized by their large bill and vibrant colors, as well as their ability to learn speech. These animals are sought out as pets due to their longevity and intelligence.
Hummingbird Hummingbirds are fast little birds that range from the Americas into Europe and Asia. Hummingbirds drink flower nectar and have to constantly feed due to their incredible metabolism.
Horse Horses are known for their unbelievable stamina. Horses have been used for many decades by mankind for their strength and speed. On farms they were used to pull plows and herd animals. During the war they were used for the cavalry, and as messengers. Horses breed in the spring and usually give birth to one offspring. Horses forage by grazing on grasses and leafy plants, but love sugar.
Camel Camels are working animals especially suited to their desert habitat and are a vital means of transport for passengers and cargo. There are three surviving species of camel. The one-humped camel makes up 94% of the world's camel population.
Red Squirrel Red squirrels can be found pretty much anywhere in America. Red squirrels are very territorial when it comes to other squirrels and can be seen usually fighting with others for territory. Squirrels build their nests in trees, and are composed of sticks and leaves.
Humpback Whale Humpback whales travel vast expanses of oceans travelling to and from breeding grounds. The males tend to grow larger than the females and are known as “bulls”. Humpback whales are found in every ocean in the world.
