T

here are few places in America where turn of the 20th Century heritage is preserved and still alive today like that which is found in Eureka Springs. Our entire downtown district is on the National Register of Historic Places where the largest collection of Victorian architecture and “gingerbread” homes in the central United States is found. Start your exploration of our historic district by visiting the Eureka Springs Historical Museum located at 95 Main Street in the Calif House (built in 1889), and just down the street don’t miss the Bank of Eureka Springs Museum, a working 100 year old bank that showcases original fixtures, furniture, where you can still pull up a chair to the pot-bellied stove and more (located in the Cornerstone Bank Building). After three major fires (1883, 1888 and 1890) that destroyed the heart of town, limestone was used to rebuild the city. As you walk our limestone sidewalks you will find one of two municipal libraries in Arkansas, financed by millionaire philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. There’s also our historic Auditorium, completed just weeks before the stock market crash of 1929, which featured John Phillips Sousa and his 67 piece orchestra as its first concert. Many other fascinating historical buildings can be found and every

building has its story. Real history hounds should seek out our bronze plaques on historic buildings, springs and homes throughout the city as well as the interpretive signs on Main & Spring Streets. Explore our city in several ways. The Eureka Springs trolley system of today re-creates the principal mode of early “in city” travel, and they offer individual rides as well as narrated tram tours, and while in downtown check out the Walking and Underground Tours. Another great way to learn about Eureka Springs is to take one of the informative Eureka Van Tours, departing from the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center several times daily. Eureka Springs has the distinction of being named one of America’s “Dozen Distinctive Destinations” by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, recognized as a Preserve America city, and is an America in Bloom award winner. There are so many interesting “one of a kind” facts that make our city so EXTRAORDINARY. Maybe that’s why we have been featured in Ripley’s Believe It or Not so many times!

Neighborly history worth discovering... War Eagle Mill is full of Ozark Mountain and Civil War history. First built in 1832, the mill has been destroyed and rebuilt three times, yet remains a working gristmill today, and is also the site of nationally renowned arts and crafts fairs. Pea Ridge National Military Park, one of the most pivotal Civil War battles, sits on 4,300 acres and is the most “intact” battlefield in America. Aviation Cadet World has several vintage military planes on display and features the Aviation Cadet Museum. Just to the east and across the Kings River is Berryville where you will find Saunders Museum and Memory Lane Museum, two don’t miss attractions for history buffs.

hen vacationing in Eureka Springs, as a couple, with the whole family, traveling with a group, or mixing business with pleasure, you are in control of how you spend your valuable time. You can be active with non stop action or you can choose to simply “chill”, relax and rejuvenate.

Adventure in Nature Let’s start with Eureka Springs City Parks. The City of Eureka Springs has roughly 1800 acres of public land that offers a variety of recreational opportunities. Lake Leatherwood City Park is one of the largest city parks in the country. Sitting on 1600 acres this park includes an 85 acre spring-fed lake, 25 miles of hiking and biking trails, rental cabins and campsites, picnic areas, baseball and soccer fields. Take a walk across one of America’s largest hand cut native limestone dams, completed in 1941 as a WPA project. Hiking and biking trails around the old city reservoir can be found at Black Bass Lake and Harmon Park features a skate park, dog park and large playground. Basin Spring Park, where it all began before the city was founded in 1879 is the heart of the historic district, and don’t forget to have some fun at the North Main Music Park. There are many springs and scenic overlooks maintained by the City Parks Department.

So Many Things to Do How about a show? Entertainment opportunities are found all over Eureka Springs. Let’s start with the Great Passion Play outdoor drama, where performances depicting the last days of Christ’s life on earth are performed May through October. Intrigue Theater will mystify everyone with “the Illusionist and the Medium.” Nightly Ghost Tours are offered at the 1905 Basin Park Hotel and the 1886 Crescent Hotel, and there are family friendly variety shows. In addition, the Opera in the Ozarks offers professional opera productions every summer. Concerts by national headline acts as well as regional performers and productions are presented throughout the year, and there are festivals and special events staged in the historic Auditorium and Basin Spring Park. America has long had a fascination with trains, so take a scenic tour, lunch or dinner excursion aboard the Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Railway. For more family fun, get all dressed up in a variety of costumes for an old time photo at Judge Roy Bean’s. And at Pig Trail Kart n’ Golf, you can play a round of mini-golf or take a thrilling go-kart ride.

Are You Hungry? Eureka Springs, a city that feeds three quarters of a million people annually, is definitely a dining destination. People come back to Eureka Springs time after time to discover and enjoy the many mealtime offerings found in this magical city. Guests enjoy the work of award winning chefs, unique restaurants, annual food and wine festivals, a tremendous local Farmers Market, the Annual Chocolate Lovers Festival, Keels Creek Winery, Railway Winery and the Ale House -- a new micro-brewery but already billed as the largest beer garden in Arkansas. Many of our restaurants have been consistently voted “Best in the State” by reader opinion polls conducted through statewide newspapers. The hardest part of “eating out” in Eureka Springs is choosing where to go! Most of our restaurants are chefowned so whether it is gourmet burgers and wood fired pizza or wine pairings at our local fine dining you’ll enjoy personal attention and a meal crafted with loving and skilled hands. So we challenge you to decide; southern fried chicken and catfish or steaks and seafood? Barbeque, Tex-Mex, European, Mediterranean or Oriental? There are so many choices, you may have to extend your stay! Our restaurants are “come as you are”, and when finished, you will leave the table with a smile.

A Shopper’s Paradise We truly are a Shopper’s Paradise offering over 150 specialty shops, with no big box stores or outlet malls. Instead, our one of a kind shops will draw you in where you will be invited to browse for just the right prize to return home with, for you or someone(s) special. If you can think it you can find it in our downtown shopping mecca or in the many shops that line the highways into town from Art Galleries to Harley Davidson. Think handmade furniture, tasting rooms, lotions and books. You’ll have to bring home several new outfits, pick out jewelry to match (duh!) and check out the leather shops with stylish shoes (or maybe new chaps, billfold or belt?) And please, don’t forget the T-Shirt with just the right saying for the kids or Aunt Jo.

The crown jewel of shopping in Eureka Springs for many decades has been our talented artists and crafters available in over 20 galleries. Paintings, stained glass, pottery, ceramics, one of a kind jewelry and breath-taking works in wood are just a few of the many art forms you will find. And for the “pickers” there’s countless treasures found in local antique shops and flea markets. Come back time and again to shop for that special birthday, anniversary or wedding present. Wellness & Relaxation I guess you could say that the search for better health was the seed that grew to create one of America’s most popular resort towns. We were founded by “health seekers”. Legend has it that Native Americans of the Osage tribes found relaxation and spiritual connectivity here with our springs. Dr. Alva Jackson took an interest in the springs in 1856 and spent the next 20 years promoting the spring water as a medicinal product. Judge L.B. Saunders from Berryville brought national attention to the springs by promoting medicinal and curative benefits through the use of our “healing waters”. Through most of the 1800’s Eureka Springs boasted a residential population of 10,000. However, with the arrival of the Missouri and North Arkansas Railway in 1882 the town’s population and daily visitor count grew as passengers traveled “The Road to Health” to Eureka Springs. In 1880 Eureka Springs water began being bottled and distributed under the “Ozarka” name brand. All of this has set the stage for today’s expanded Massage and Wellness therapeutic offerings found in Eureka Springs. The city has attracted talented trained and skilled professional health practitioners that combine applied new technology and techniques with traditional massage. Eureka Springs has many spas and professional relaxation experts with services ranging from steam cabinets and saunas to massage, aromatherapy, acupressure, facials, weight rooms and exercise facilities, primordial sound medication, Ayurvedic medicine and reflexology. As a natural health conscious community we are proud of our local Farmers Market, our natural food stores and herbal apothecaries and pharmacies. And remember, this is not only good for you, it feels good too! A spa visit is a great way to relax and rejuvenate from the stress of today’s busy world and a wonderful way for couples to reconnect by enjoying a couple’s massage.

Ride Eureka Springs “It’s all about the ride,”

is a phrase often said by people that enjoy the road from a motorcycle seat. That’s why riders from all over the United States have discovered Eureka Springs as a motorcycle vacation destination. Sitting in the heart of the beautiful Ozark Mountains, the roads leading in and out of our city make us the best place to headquarter. From routes like the Pig Trail, recognized in USA Today as the 2nd Best Ride in the Country, to back roads and scenic highways that include rolling hills, open stretches of blacktop, twisting curves and switchbacks, you quickly see why Arkansas truly is “the Natural State”. No matter what motorcycling skill level you have, there’s a road with your name on it promising a saddlebag full of great memories. There are many reasons why we have been featured in national publications and on popular television shows like “The Motorhead Traveler” featured on MAV-TV, and why motorcycle clubs and organizations have chosen Eureka Springs for their regional and national rallies. Eureka Springs is favored by many bikers every September as they participate in Bikes, Blues and BBQ, one of the nation’s largest motorcycling events.

You can always find a variety of music being offered from rock n’roll, rhythm & blues, jazz, swing, country, folk and easy listening, to the karaoke clubs that release your inner “star.” If you are traveling with the kids there are locations that are family friendly and smoke free. Eureka Springs West & Beaver Lake As you travel west from Eureka Springs you will discover a variety of lodging, dining, shopping, retail and antique shops. Landmark attractions like Lake Leatherwood city park, Thorncrown Chapel, Blue Spring Heritage Center, Inspiration Point, the Opera in the Ozarks, Bear Mountain and Hidden Valley riding stables dot the way to Beaver Lake and the White River. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed construction of the Beaver Dam in 1966 creating a 28,000 acre lake with 449 miles of shoreline. Beaver Lake has become one of the mid-west’s most popular recreational water destinations, perfect for swimming, stand up paddle boarding, boating, tubing and skiing. The clear pristine water and easy access points also make it a favorite scuba diving lake. Anglers love this lake for its largemouth, smallmouth and striper bass fishing not to mention plentiful supplies of crappie, bream, white bass, and channel and spoonbill catfish. If you like to fly fish, wade or fish from a canoe, the White River tail waters below Beaver Dam are great for rainbow and brown trout. Not really into water sports or fishing but you enjoy the water? Scenic cruises, fall foliage and eagle watch tours are available aboard the Belle of the Ozarks. The Beaver Dam and Dam Site River Campground are close and easily accessible from Eureka Springs. Visitors can enjoy such conveniences as electricity and fire-rings, drinking water, showers and restrooms, picnic sites, swimming beaches, hiking trails, boat launching ramps, sanitary dump stations, group picnic shelters and amphitheaters -are also available in the parks. Marinas, outfitters and expert fishing guides are readily available to guarantee a great experience on the water. There’s always a good meal to be found plus rustic cabins, resorts, motels, vacation homes and campgrounds are waiting to host your family vacation, reunion or group visit.

Groups are Special to Us Professional and Pre-formed Groups Group visitation has been the lifeblood of Eureka Springs from the start. The railroad organized group excursions to our city in the late 1800’s and by the late 1900’s motor coaches from all over the United States were rolling into town with professional tour operators, senior groups, religious and church groups and bank travel clubs, and they still seek out Eureka Springs today. Why? For starters, our historical city has many “one of a kind” attractions that groups want to see. There’s the Great Passion Play outdoor drama and the largest statue of Christ in North America. Thorncrown Chapel, designed by architect E. Fay Jones, has amazed over six million visitors, and has won numerous architectural awards, including being ranked one of the top ten buildings of the 20th Century by the American Institute of Architecture. We’ve got nightly music shows and theater performances, our historic downtown district, walking tours and the ES & NA Railroad, ghost tours, wine tasting, Historical museums and sites, superb dining, group friendly lodging, motor coach parking and many special events throughout the year. The trolleys and narrated tram tours are unique amenities not found in most destinations, and our stepon guides and receptive planning services are second to none. Our close proximity to nearby Arkansas travel destinations make it easy for tour planners to incorporate Eureka Springs with any group destined for Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art or the Native American Museum in Bentonville, the Clinton House in Fayetteville or the Western Frontier experience found in Fort Smith and we are only an hour from Branson, Missouri, America’s Live Show Capital. What do visiting groups do? Let’s start with the most popular tour…

Iconic Eureka Springs This highly recommended tour offers several days and nights in America’s most EXTRAORDINARY city. Of course there are great accommodations and dining. Next, you will find many options for nighttime entertainment including the Great Passion Play outdoor drama, the Pine Mountain Theater, the Ozark Mountain Hoe-down, Intrigue Theater, lunch or dinner on the ES & NA Railway, seasonal performances of the Opera in the Ozarks and Ghost Tours at the 1886 Crescent Hotel and Basin Park Hotel. To keep your group busy during the day there’s narrated tram tours, Thorncrown Chapel, the Christ of the Ozarks Statue, Keels Creek Winery or Railway Winery, and a visit to our Historical museums in the historic downtown district. A popular option for many groups is to include a trolley pass for every one and allow them “free time” to shop, visit art galleries, snack and explore on their own.

68

By adding other attractions and activities special themed itineraries can be created. Faith Based Tours can include St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and Little Portion Retreat Center. Addition time can be allowed to include the Bible Museum and Sacred Art Center at the Great Passion Play. Ya Gotta Have Art adds a tour and lecture at Eureka Springs School of the Arts, a private reception, dinner, gallery stroll or a “Make and Take” workshop with local artists. The Great Outdoors tour can be expanded to include Blue Spring Heritage Center, Cosmic Cavern, Onyx Cave or War Eagle Cavern, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, Downtown Walking Tours, Ozark Mountain Ziplines and Beaver Lake Cruises aboard the Belle of the Ozarks. Don’t forget about Spring Dogwood and Redbud tours and there is nothing more breathtaking than the colors that appear and explode every October and early November during Fall Foliage in the Ozarks. Christmas time is a wonderful time in Eureka Springs and we host a variety of special “Special Events”, parades and festivals throughout the year.

Reunions Families have been hosting their reunions in Eureka Springs for decades and many come back year after year! With the variety of lodging, campgrounds, fun attractions and outdoor activities Eureka Springs can guarantee a fun filled family gathering, and, there are plenty of great restaurants and caterers available to keep your family fed. Eureka Springs has become increasingly popular with Military and Veterans organizations as a destination for groups to gather. Partly because we have so much to offer, as an affordable resort destination, but mostly because our community has a deep level of respect and appreciation for the men and women that have served our country, defending our freedoms and protecting us from harm.

Motorcycle Rallies Because of the great routes and rides, accommodations, fun and hospitality found in our city, motorcycle clubs and organizations love to bring their rallies and gatherings here. We are a great place to headquarter while enjoying miles and miles of the best riding in America. Eureka Springs has hosted a variety of clubs, owners groups and specialized events including Scootercade, VROC, Valkyrie Riders, Gold Wing, HOG Chapters, Brothers of the Third Wheel, Christian Motorcycle Association chapters, Bikers Against Child Abuse, Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club Regional Conference, America’s Guardians and more.

RVing is big in Eureka Springs Family Motor Coach Association, Airstream, Holiday Ramblers and Good Sams Clubs are just a few of the many owners groups, recreational vehicle clubs and chapters that have held successful rallies in Eureka Springs. Our campgrounds and parks are clean, immaculate and equipped to give a comfortable quality experience, and the hospitality shown by the managers and attendants is second to none.

Meetings and Conventions Eureka Springs has been a popular meeting and convention destination for decades. Companies, associations and organizations continually boast about attendance records and higher participation, as well as overall superior attendee satisfaction when they choose Eureka Springs as their location. We have a variety of facilities to accommodate your meeting, trade show, convention or conference. From exhibition space to breakout rooms, theater style facilities to banquet halls, we have it for you, and there are “out of the box” team building options available including hiking, stand up paddle boarding and zip lining. Spouses and family members love meetings in Eureka Springs because they can play while you work, and the many attractions, shopping, spas, tours and dining gives everyone that much deserved vacation. Many conventioneers allow extra days before or after their planned event to fully relax and recharge. Once you have your first meeting with one of our event planners you will be sold on Eureka Springs for your next event. So, let us help you. We can assist in customizing your tour, rally, reunion, meeting or convention and answer all your questions. Contact us today!

Retirement & Relocation

Thinking About Relocation? Have you seen us? Of course you are! Eureka Springs is a natural choice for new residents. Urban stresses of pollutions, crime and traffic are far away from this idyllic mountain village (we don’t even have a traffic light). The temperate climate means parched summers and blizzard-ridden winters are only seen on the news, not outside the window. Eureka’s easygoing small town Victorian charm is a perfect match for almost anyone wanting more from life than the frazzled nerves of the urban commuter. People from all walks of life-fledgling entrepreneurs to growing families-seek out the security and hospitality of this jewel set amid the lush green background of the Ozarks. Retirees also enjoy Eureka as an ideal destination now that they have the time to enjoy an incredible array of restaurants, shops, art galleries full of local work and attractions. Today’s retirees find quality of life value as well in a wide array of volunteer opportunities, offering a chance to give their expertise back to their communities in a meaningful way. Many people move to Eureka Springs because they have visited here and they just can’t get the town out of their mind. Like a favorite painting that has come to life surrounded by bright colors, friendly locals and gorgeous scenery you just can’t wait to get back. Whether it’s long unhurried days of watching the deer and squirrels play, fish leaping from our lakes and rivers or of a week full of activities, groups and hobbies you can have the life you choose. When you are ready to make the move let the Greater Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce be your first call. Realtors, banks, tax advisors, insurance, transportation-you name it we have them as a member. 1-800-6EUREKA.

Four Distinctive Seasons Eureka Springs has been richly blessed with four distinctive seasons, and each season comes with its own identity, pace, climate, appearance, entertainment and special events. Winter is our quiet season, great for kick back time, romance, or a time to recharge and recover after the busy holiday season. Hide out in luxury lodging, bed and breakfast or a cozy cabin, complete with fireplace. Get pampered at our spas, spoiled with great dining and enjoy our retail shops and galleries retail shops.

Spring brings blooming dogwood and redbud trees with white and pink blossoms. The days grow longer and temps start warming up. This time of the year ushers in the excitement of another vacation season with the opening of our seasonal attractions combined with longstanding special events.

Summer heats up the hills allowing us to enjoy the lakes, rivers, parks and outdoor activities we have in abundance. Families plan their vacations to enjoy all Eureka Springs has to offer.

Fall delivers yet another special time as the hills come alive with the changing of the leaves, giving us warm days, cool nights and a slower pace to enjoy the annual arts and crafts shows and foliage tours. Fall also ushers in the annual events such as the Antique Automobile Festival, Corvette Weekend, War Eagle Arts and Crafts Show, the Ozark Folk Festival and more. Then there are the holiday celebrations with our Veterans Day festivities, Thanksgiving and Christmas before we ring in the New Year. www.EurekaSpringsChamber.com // 1-800-6EUREKA
