PIEDMONT HOUSE

165 Spring Street

Built in 1880, one of the oldest inns in historic Eureka Springs, the Piedmont boasts a charming homey atmosphere. Of special interest, an original guest register was uncovered dating back to 1888. A wall uncovered during previous renovations on the upper level displays authentic signatures dating back to 1880 and 1881which are thought to be autographs of the contractors during the Piedmont’s construction. In 1889 two adjacent buildings were joined and encircled by verandahs to make a larger boarding house.

Little Lake Eureka was the City’s first water supply made by damming the spring-fed lake. Later this was the first swimming hole for the town’s guests and sported a large dance platform, bathhouse and concessions.

Little Eureka Spring this spring’s water gained fame when it took second prize at the Saint Louis World’s Fair as the “purest water in the world” in 1904.

Carry A. Nation Spring the famed temperance leader whose boarding house is across the street saw this spring in a vision and had it blasted out. The spring and cave behind it served the neighborhood as a refrigerator.

Onyx (or Laundry) Spring was noted for its onyx stalactites harvested for jewelry and as the feeder spring that accommodated neighborhood washing.

Cave Spring originates from a small cave on Douglas Street with the mountain behind as its large reservation.

We’re so excited to have our new prototype bench for Basin Park!

This bench was made using the original metal hardware, which was heated and bent to a more comfortable position then repainted with a sleek black satin paint. The wood is custom milled Osage Orange, which means it’ll probably outlast most of us!
