Climate Change Academies and Simulation of Local Climate Change Planning May, 2017
The Climate Change Academies are intensive training courses for municipal officials seeking to strengthen local capacities. They aim at generating local strategies to cope with climate change. The objectives of the Academies 1. Raising awareness about the most relevant climate change impacts in municipalities. 2. Identifying and analysing administrative and planning requirements to integrate climate change considerations into decision making. 3. Gaining knowledge about basic principles to implement climate adaptation and mitigation strategies. 4. Learning about best practices at national and international level. 5. Training municipal officials in formulating project proposals to tackle local climate change challenges. 6. Presenting financing opportunities to develop local adaptation and mitigation initiatives. 7. Exchanging experiences, knowledge and good practices on local climate change planning and strengthening municipal collaboration. Simulation of Local Climate Change Planning The methodology of the games is based on a fictional municipality, which has been designed to highlight key weaknesses and strengths when tackling local climate challenges, while providing a neutral ground on which municipal officials can interact with each other.
